Why do you need to access an app instead of just turning the bolt into place?
No one said they need this.
This is not instead of.
Therefore it is not

To make use of the skill, you'll need anAugust Connect Wi-Fi bridge in addition to the company's Bluetooth lock
It's a shame that it is Bluetooth and not Wifi, I would need 4 or 5 repeaters get get across my house.

Thats only if you want to connect the lock directly to alexa with no home automation hub. No one does this. Everyone uses wifi locks with alexa currently.

And as of now, you can't unlock your door with the Echo
Yes, you can. IFTTT

alright i'll bite.
yes i have 3 schlage connect smart locks connected to a smart hub.
no, its not a necessity.
yes, it makes my life easier because there are 6 people in my house (19mo, 8, 15, 18, 32 and 50)
people come and go all hours of the day but at 10:45 at night, all my exterior doors are locked automatically no matter what.
during the day i'm not worried about locking them. (a) it kills your battery to constantly lock the doors behind kids who don't remember and (b) i have 2 big dogs that will not anyone come remotely close to our house without going apeshit.
no its not a necessity, but if i'm posted up with the wife in bed at 10pm watching a movie i dont want to go upstairs & downstairs checking door locks before falling asleep.
if we are all truly out of the house (like once school starts) i can remotely unlock it for a contractor or provide them with a temporary code so they can get in and out and i have a record of when they entered the house & when they left.
so there's no downside. schlage is the rockstar of automatic locks and their camelot touchscreen deadbolts are a technological marvel and the one time i had one mess up, they sent me *TWO* in the mail for free.

so you wouldn't want to automatically unlock the door upon arriving home using geofencing if you have your hands full and dont want to fuss with it?
Totally irrelevent. This app doesn't unlock doors. It only locks them.

Our household is all-in into the Apple Ecosystem. No Alexa enabled systems for us. Only Apple Home Kit compatible devices for our home.

I vote no. If you can lock the door, someone else can unlock it.
Right because no one can get passed a standard dead bolt lock.

zwave and zwave+ laugh at apple being too snotty to include the universal ISO standard.

There was no bait. It is a fact. From the beginning of time to the end of time, man has and will always look for the easiest, most efficient way to get things done.

Ok, Captain Semantics. What use is it if it is easier just to turn the nob when you walk through the door rather than access the app.

If using the app is more complicated than not using the app then using it makes things more complicated.

There's about a half dozen that do so I'm not seeing the irrelevance.

That's where smart part comes in, geofence and your phone stays in your pocket the whole time.

it's a lot easier to break a window than hack alexa.

with android tasker and an 'unlock' shortcut you can do pretty much anything you want.
alexa dumbs this down for the masses because they dont want to get sued because a burglar was standing outside and yelled "alexa unlock my front door"
