Everything I don't personally do must be "libs".

Logic.

Why does it really matter though?

It is the only part of a marriage fantasy that features the man.

Tons of career Women are the breadwinners these days. Are their husbands beta bitches for not being able to "bring home the bacon"?

Or maybe she just has her reasons for wanting to keep it

The professional one has already been given. And that is understandable if she has a career in which name recognition is important. Depending on her field...it may be hard enough as a woman to compete in it, changing her name could make things even more challenging.

Like I said, I gladly took my husband's name. However, I had gone by my maiden name for 34 years. There was a moment or two of kinda sadness when making the change. Maybe some women really cling to their last names as an identity thing and not because they are some crazy femnazi. Taking your husband's last name doesn't make you a better wife.

FWIW, young women are significantly outperforming men. Among people under 30 women earn more than men as a group. And they graduate from college at almost a 50% higher rater (58% versus 42% of high school and college graduates).

Most common thing I've seen lately is women changing their last names when married but also changing their middle name to their maiden name.

I think that's a good compromise and weeds out that liberal hyphen BS.

While that may be true, there are still fields of work where women are not taken as seriously as men (think women working in male-dominated industries).

I did this. Part because I knew it would please my dad to keep the family name in my name and also because I absolutely hated my given middle name so this gave me the perfect excuse to legally be rid of it

Buddy of mine had this happen to him. He's married with a kid, and e wry thing seems to be just fine.

It's one thing I won't talk to him about tho.

This argument is a feminism in the gaps argument. As a group younger women are doing better. And there are dozens of fields in which women dominate.

IMO the woman is basically saying "im not fully committed to this." just to be clear im talking in general, not at these two people specifically.

also IMO, i believe that when you (man or woman) gets married, the new family you just formed becomes your number one priority. when a woman keeps her last name after she gets married, i get the impression she's more committed to her old family (mommy and daddy) than the new family she just formed. just my opinion though i know the libs feel differently.

wow.
