Best wine I've ever had and it's between $25-$30 a bottle.

ETA: visit this site for reviews of what you're looking for OP. Gives you price range and star rating criteria and seems to get a lot of traffic for reviews Vivino.com

In your set of 4, include a Malbec. It's a South American wine that's very smooth. Make sure it's from Argentina. I've had French Malbecs and they aren't that great.

The best wine you've ever had was a Pinot Noir?

OP, move this to the Food/Drink board.

It's $ 31.99 per bottle on wine dot com but you can get it for $15 per bottle from this Saratoga wine exchange site.

Yeah PN's are my go-to so I admit I'm pretty biased. It's easy drinking and goes with a variety of food choices.

I like to give the gift of Italian wine. Most folks never venture beyond pinot grigio, Chianti or proseco - which leaves about 1000ish microclimates you could wow them with.

As a general rule - try to go with odd years over even ones if you have the option on vintage.

My reigning favorite bottle for <$20 is Marchesi di Gresy Barbera. A lighter bodied red (in density, not flavor) that ddefinitely outkicks its coverage for the price.

My favorite Italian red is Amarone. It'S BIGGER than most merlots..in flavor and ABV. Best bang for your buck around $50/bottle is going to be Tomasi. The 2012 scored a 93 with Wine Spectator... Let it breathe for 15 minutes and you get big velvety black cherry notes up front and clove-ey walnuty chocolate traces on the finish.

ETA:

Had to unmoisten folks
