Props to you for revealing that. Naturally, I would like to know specifically what your experience was, but I respect your desire to keep that off the board.

Yes they could.

You really should watch the series on A&E. There were situations where they basically were. People literally escaped the church. They were in these church compounds(heavily guarded) and made a run for it. There was a story where one guy escaped on a motorcycle and church members chased in a vehicle to make him turn back. When he wouldn't turn back they tried to run him off the road. Married couples in the Sea Org(this organization within Scientology) were not allowed to have children. If a woman got pregnant she was expected to abort the child.

revoke the tax exempt status of religion/churches...

It's was founded as a tax dodge and to entice the gullible, targeting celebrities to influence public opinion.

I've been transfixed on this series. The key word that all former members say, that has explained all I need to hear, is that they "escaped". Escaped. That's a helluva way to describe leaving a religion that you practiced for decades.

Same here, but I have my problems with the church also.

I'm not gonna get into a philosophical argument about the beliefs or teachings of different religions. I'm more interested in the actions of these religions. Do Christians blow up buildings and drive trucks over crowds of innocent people? Do Christians force families to disconnect from their children or parents if they leave the church?

We can go there if you want.

Do Christian leaders rape children? Yes. Does the Church protect these people? Yes.

Get off your high horse.

It's all horseshite.

There are many out there that do not consider Catholics to be Christians.

Would happen overnight if the federal government would stop recognizing them as a religion and tax the shite out of them.

It's not that simple. Read up on how they got their tax exempt status.

They basically sued and harassed the IRS and its employees and said they'd drop it all for tax exempt status.

I watched this with interest, because I participated in some of Hubbards Management Technology training. I saw some of this wack shite at a semi-close distance. Turned away from it as soon as we were done with training.

For what it's worth, there are some pretty insane Christian sects of churches. You still have the snake handlers, holy rollers, and people who swear they see demons. Hell, there was a couple out there churches in Watson where they would do the whole speaking in tongues nonsense.

This has been discussed ad nauseum.

We're discussing Scientology now, please try to keep up.

You don't understand the history of Jesus. He didn't walk around telling people he was a prophet or divine. Jesus showed his followers how to live.
True. All the divinity stuff was added on well after he passed

People should be able to decide they no longer believe in a specific religion, leave the church, and not be shunned from family and friends who still are in that religion.

So no more Amish eh?

I'm not defending Scientology because I do think it's a cult, but I find it hilarious other religious people want their tax exempt status pulled. Why is believing frozen aliens dumped into a volcano are haunting us somehow less legit then thinking God hates dancing or short skirts? Is evil Lord Xenu somehow more believable than finding gold plated commandments in America?

I believe in freedom of religion.

But I also believe people should be more informed about how some of these so called religions operate.

More insults.

You specifically compared the actions of other religions to Christianity. I merely pointed out that Christians do some fricked up things, too.

Your retort? "We're not talking about Christianity. Try to keep up."
