Why in 2017 do so many people require faxes?

I have to send bank statements in. The statements are in pdf form on my computer. Seems to me emailing the pdfs would be the simpler route.
The concept of a fax in 2017 is odd to me. Doing a "online message to fax" program now, hopefully it works, do they still have Kinko's around?

It's crazy. Finance and medical require faxes. At the time I worked for a publicly traded tech company and needed to spend $20 on faxing from Kinkos a few years ago.

It's secure. You can't hack a fax.

Theoretically for security. But with lots of faxes being online/email based now it's retarded.

I had to get my investment advisor to sign some government forms related to my retirement account last week. They got a kick out of the fact that the forms had carbon paper.

Insurance claims also require faxes as opposed to emails. It drives me nuts. It's 2017 dammit

Because it is considered more secure - seriously. It is significantly harder to hack, spoof or decrypt in transmission as they all get converted to 64 bit encoding (I think that is it) on transmission and decoded on the other end.

tried four free fax sites, got four failed returns.
Found an $8 a month site and it went through.
Set phone to remind me to cancel in 25 days so I don't get charged (first month free)

When's the last time you went to the western union to send a telegraph?
Fax machines are an ancient outdated technology that can be replaced by items most of us carry in our pockets. That's what years do for it.
You want me to explain exactly how faxes work and why people THINK they are more secure than SSl encryption?

You can fax via email
all my faxes are e-faxes done through email

yeah, I know.
I started this thread after the fax kept failing.
So just now I called the number and someone picked up, I had the wrong number. The guy I talked to said "Oh you can just email that to us"
I'm still fricking laughing.

Because banks, attorneys, and especially the medical field all deem fax to be more secure than e-mail.

Most all in one printers have a scan to fax option

Facsimiles are great. I love mashing buttons and hearing a dial tone and getting a 'negative response feedback' letter about 4 hours later.

People are afraid of change. It took us forever to get some of our remote offices to realize that emailing their timesheets and orders in was much faster than faxing them. After that we had to go through it all over again once we put in a new purchasing system that reduced approval times from days to just minutes.

I haven't had a landline since 2002. I used to have a VoiP but cancelled that in 2012. Just easier to do everything via cells now.

Because emails are regulated like crazy

It'll probably gain more popularity. It's secure. Too many shenanigans on the internet.
