Then, but watch how some of the women react. You can fairly easily spot the women who would be most vulnerable to abuse. They are the ones who are always making fun of others to appear superior and doing anything they can to get into the good graces of those who are talking shite to and about them.
It's rather interesting.

I wouldnt say people feed off it...no more then the same people who hurl insulting or degrading comments at men, minorities, gays, basically everyone.
It's the internet. nobody is safe.

"Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". Usually the abuser will apologize profusely after proclaiming their love for their victim and how they'll never do it again. And many times women just fall for it every single time
Other times its fear, these men are legitamitely crazy. They will do whatever and say whatever it takes to keep this power that they have. That's all it is. As men with our giant egos, we like to have power. Some men take it to the extreme making it a necessity to constantly overpower women so they can feel better about themselves
Financial reasons, the man has a good job. Women freeloads. She's scared of losing financial security
Some women just dont want to be alone

Right, it's all the women's fault.
It tends to be complicated. Guy is a control freak, isolates her from family and friends, controls her communication so it's harder to get help. Kids make it worse. She believes he'll change because he says he loves her, he blames her for the abuse, belittles her to believing he's all that would ever want to be with her. It becomes like a Stockholm syndrome for her.
It's not exactly a conscious decision like "I'm gonna stay with this a-hole who beats me so I can play up the victim card and whine about it".

It is. I think you are talking about a different issue than the type of serious abuse the OP had in mind, but it's a similar subject.
You can measure how much a woman respects herself, and in turn how much she cares about the people who love her, by seeing where she chooses to draw the line between accepting good-natured teasing behavior from men vs. accepting jokes about sexual objectification from men--the latter of which is not only a form of self-degradation and violence against the ideal of human dignity, but is also a form of personal betrayal against all those other men who had tried to uphold that ideal.
Seen in this light, it's quite understandable why most men would tend to choose a casual objectifying strategy in their behavior toward women, especially on a message board. It's the safe and rational thing to do.
