But alot of good officers leave law enforcement for better paying jobs so their families are betteroff.
I know that. I see a lot of young guys come into police work because they want an exciting job or they come in after military service because they want something similar and those are many of the guys that seem to grow disgruntled after a few years on the job because they want more money. There is nothing wrong with that because people change employers quite often in the private sector but the reason theyy didn't last is because they were in it for the wrong reasons.

Out of every State Department...?
Every state law enforcement agency. The Attorney General has a small staff of detectives and I don't know what they are paid but I also don't know that they fall under a law enforcement office as per the state. They could fall under some sort of caveat that allows them to exceed LSP pay.

There are three brands of cop
1. The brass, they are usually smart, administrative in their profession.
2. The wannabe brass, potentially smart, potentially ok.
3. Lifetime patrol, likely an IQ ranging between 85-110.

I know a dude who was an EBR sheriff deputy (or something like that for about 5 years) making probably 30k/year
moved out to California, got a job with a police dept making 107,000 and with OT pulled 127k (you can check it out online as they post public officials wages paid)
why any of you would work for 35-50k in a more dangerous climate versus packing up and moving to a place with great weather and near ZERO crime
example:
the city he works for 3 murders/100,000
Baton Rouge 66 murders/100,000
National Avg crime rate 303/100k
his place 190/100k
BTR 540/100k
he transferred there and was promoted to Detective a year later because there's a shortage of people wanting to be police there.
he bought a brand new 4 bedroom house with a pool for 300k, that was when prices were lower, but it's still not in an absurd area like SF

Every state law enforcement agency
Just clarifying the point you were trying to make..They are NOT the highest paid department in the state, just the highest paid LEO...Starting out...
Posted on 5/30/14 at 11:20 am to DanTiger
There is no law and LSP is not the highest paid. This is incorrect.

This is not correct. LSP only starts out in the low to mid 30s

Intelligent people don't take low paying jobs?

Rural parishes will start no experience deputies out around $12 an hour

Money is not the driving force in the life of a truly intelligent person. I worked my arse off when I was younger in a job I despised simply to make money. I was never home and spent very little time with my kids because I was chasing the wrong thing. I was able to put a few dollars in the bank and immediately quit to begin a career in law enforcement. I know supplement my salary with residual investment income and I am FAR happier thn I ever was in my previous career.

Some rural parish start deputies low 40s

The highest paid
Not to hijack this obvious troll of a thread, but does anyone know who the highest paid agency is?
I know overtime and details raise pay, some agencies have unbelievable earning potential, but I am talking about base pay.
I heard the City of Gonzalez pays their officers well.
Anyone got a clue who it is?
Posted on 5/30/14 at 11:30 am to DanTiger
Me and theenemy know for a fact there is no law and LSP isn't highest paid.
Posted on 5/30/14 at 11:31 am to The People
Gonzales is #1 at $51000 one year out when you factor in benefits and state sup.

Salary for a deputy?
Never came across that

LSP makes the most in base pay.

Nice. I think I read somewhere yesterday the Mayor was about to give them another 2% raise across the board.

Wrong
I understand that you disagree with me but this is getting old. Which department makes more in base pay? If you cannot name the department it is because it doesn't exist.
