Smart people can't be cops because intelligent individuals would question the direction the police are heading in this country.

Scruffy figures that cops nowadays either recognize the problem and fully support it because they gain more power over their lesser citizens or they are too slow to notice that anything bad is going on.

From the LSP website...

quote:

BENEFITS
Beginning salary of $2967 per month while attending the Academy
After one year, a salary of $3408 per month

I believe Gonzales has already been pointed out as more

quote:

Houma
Base Salary: $33,000 - $40,000

quote:

Lafayette
the annual salary for an entry-level Police Officer is $31,960.80 per annum

and that's not there job, they would use too much of their own discretion which is not "fair"....they would only arrest/ticket bad people, and not just arrest/ticket those who broke the law.

Smart people are loyal to the state where they reside and they also realize that where the polcie are headeing in thsi country has no bearing on where they are headed in the state of Louisiana.

Scruffy also speaks about himself in the third person so pretty much everything he says is discounted.

That's not necessarily the issue here. The issue appears to be that smart people that want to become cops are turned down because Police Chief(s) are afraid that the smart people will eventually get bored and move on to bigger and better things.

From the outside looking in this seems like a really poor policy. Even if smart cops move on in a few years, their presence during their tenure is likely to have a positive impact on the local department.

Those are recruits and not Troopers.

This is correct.

I noticed no pay listed on the Gonzales site and he also included state supp pay in his calculation. State police pay goes up after one year as well.

quote:

Houma
Base Salary: $33,000 - $40,000

3408 per month is 40,896 per year.

That statement was applicable not matter where you live.

That is simply not accurate. I have a Masters and fall on the upper end of the bell curve in relation to IQ and I had no problem finding a job in this state.

There is no national policy in place for eevry department across the country. It is silly to contend that it doesn't matter.

That comment really had nothing to do with this discussion and was below the belt. I simply feel compelled to bring up how old your schtick is in every thread that presents the opportunity because it is irritating. You are generally a good poster who has meaningful things to add but you ruin it with the third person crap and I am not the only person here to point this out.

I believe you are bumped to 3408 per month upon graduation. The website does not explain that properly for the purpose of being succinct.

That's good news. The CT case linked (I think on page 2) is likely an outlier. With the prevalence of cop f'ups and those news stories getting posed here and the PT board I'll keep this in mind. Because every time a douche-bag-policeman-act is posted on TD there is always someone that responds, "well you know they don't allow people with high IQ test scores to become cops".

Now that we've discussed the issue a little further I feel better about my local police.

Smart people have options that pay more. Cops don't make a lot of money. Smart people don't follow authority blindly.
