Why does this matter. I personally don't see why am adult would go without kids. Whether they leave kids home or don't have any doesn't change anything about that. I'm not trying to offend those that like it, but I consider those people to be the "Disney Obsessed". It's your hobby and more power to you.

As far as doing all the other vacations on top of Disney, you'd have to be upper middle class to afford that. 90% of people cant swing that financially. My wife makes above the household income average for Louisiana and i make triple what she does. That's over 4 times the average income in Louisiana We couldn't afford it.

It's way more odd to have an opinion on what others like to do on their vacation then it is to go to Disney as an adult. This is the biggest thread of douche bags I've ever seen. If it's not for you than that's fine but what does that have to do with other people. The fact that you wouldn't go to Disney as an adult has no bearing on whether other people would. Some people like to go to Disney as adults without there kids and just because you wouldn't doesn't mean they are weird but you caring enough to criticize them does makes you a freaking loser. Also who cares if people where Disney clothes or have a Disney room has it it any different than people who were camouflage and have deer mounted in their house or a LSU room and a closet full of LSU gear.

Like I said earlier in the thread, it's no stranger or weirder than following 17 year old dudes while they're in high school (recruiting board), painting your face for an lsu game, or even wearing a jersey of your favorite lsu quarterback.

I never called anyone odd. I'm just saying that the choice to go to Disney repetitively is odd to me.

Like someone else said, people have different hobbies. One can easily think the amount of money I'd be willing to spend on fishing would be outrageous. They would find that odd. I think the only reason Disney lovers get a little more attention is because of the fact that it's a theme park that was intended (at least originally) for children. No one questions a grown man fishing. I realize it's more than a children's theme park to those who enjoy it, but to a lot of people, it's not much more than that.

And I realize it's a fun place, but I'm not going to get over it. This is the internet god damn it and I am right.

That's completely false. Walt built it specifically because most places were like this. He wanted a place the whole family could enjoy.

He built a place that children wanted to go to, and parents were willing to go to, because it wasn't just for the kids. There's a difference. I don't think the original intention was to attract adults without children. And I truly don't mean that in a way to bash adults who go. The intention was to attract the kids and have the adults be "willing" to go.

He wanted a place where everyone could could go and have fun.

Adults were willing to go to the old amusement parks. How else could they exist? The purpose was for the parents (adults) to want to go as well. That was apparent from the beginning. Why else have a "Hall of Presidents" and other adult-oriented attractions from the start? It was never geared just toward children even in a way to just appease their parents.

You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway. - Walt Disney

This was his thought on the subject.

A good example is the jungle cruise. There are many in this thread who talk about seeing the world instead of disney. Well, in 1955, most people couldn't take that kind of trip. And while many more could today, it's still not viable for most families. So he took you there. And he did in the best way he could. Using animators and technology his team had to create from scratch. That ride wasn't/isn't just for children and that was never the intent. Hell, he even wanted real animals

I don't deny he tried to win over families by attracting adults. I don't think he tried to attract purely adults. I don't think that in 1971, they were trying to get a 55 year old couple whose children had moved out of the house to come to the park. The attract adults for the same reason they put adult humor in cartoons and children's movies. It draws the adults in as well and makes it more likely that they'll choose that over the alternative. They didn't make Shrek for 35 year olds, but they kept them in mind when making it. The original intent was for children.

Kilimanjaro Safari's represent a real version of how he wanted the Jungle Cruise to be. You interact with animals and don't even see the physical barriers. To most people, they'd believe a lion could get to you and hurt you. That design is ingenious.

Disney is fun. Took my fiance there last year (first spring break of grad school ).

Would not go back until I had kids. It was fun to do what I want, and to reminiscence from when I was a kid.

Her best friend went on a 5k dollar honeymoon there. That would not be fun for me.

We're hopeful to go back without the kids at some point. Not having to worry about getting back to the resort for naps or bedtime, able to enjoy Magic Kingdom and Epcot at night with the fireworks, and doing a nighttime stroll through the World Showcase with a beer or two.

You can drink in every park now if you just need to get your alcohol fix. You can get it at Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom but for dinner only. Hollywood Studios you can get it at 50's Prime Time. Epcot and Animal Kingdom have it pretty readily available.
