I have no idea

We just went for a week and stayed in the Bay Lake Towers. They are condos. We cooked most of our own meals, but did eat at the parks or hotels a couple times. All told we spent about 5k for myself, wife, and 2 kids

That includes gas, a hotel in Talahasse to break up the driving there, etc

There's tons of places out there that get Disney's conference rates on the pricier hotels. Just book through them and your set.

how crowded and what type of clientele is going to be in these places though...?

We usually stay at one of the value resorts and from what I've seen, you have a mixture of normal middle-class people and foreign visitors.

The reason I prefer a value resort is that (1) they're still very comfortable, clean, and have nice pools, cafeteria, and gift shops. And (2) you don't go to Disney to stay at your resort. Basically you will be back at the resort to crash for the night or if you have little kids to rest for a bit in the mid-afternoon before going back to one of the parks later that evening. So really unless you just want to hang out at your resort a lot (which nobody wants to do, it's Disney after all), spending extra money on one of the high dollar resorts is a waste.

I married in to a family I guess you would call "obsessed" with disney. I had never been when I met my future wife at 22. My family goes to the Destin area every year for the last 30 years and I still look forward to it every year. Her family does that with disney. I've been 5 or 6 times in the past 5 or 6 years. Im no weirdo just your average football loving(really all sports I watch ESPN pretty much non stop) louisiana boy. I wasn't sure what to expect but it didn't take long to figure out the attraction. World class service, great food( people who criticize the food are probably rednecks who just get fast food), great drinking scenes, and extremely comfortable accomadations. The whole fat people everywhere thing is a myth. While there are plenty of rascal riding heavyweights they are outnumbered by the greatest concentration of beautiful women I have ever seen in one place. I regularly see 20 or 30 there more attractive than any women I've ever seen in louisiana or any other state. A lot of these women are foreign so you can't understand them but still hot ha. It's hard not to stare in front of my wife but they are literally everywhere, many in their 20's and 30's looking to party. I know this because I got married In Disney on my 5th trip there. All my friends sounded like some of you until they got there. They had 3 wild crazy nights without leaving Disney property. Most of them went home with at least one girl and I had about 8 single groomsman. They all said they thought it would be wierd and for kids but that quickly changed. They all rank it in their top 2 or 3 trips ever including all our college spring break trips, weekends in New Orleans and Vegas trip. It is all of their number 1 wedding they have ever been to. There is also world class shopping for adult woman. Add in the awesome weather if you don't mind a little heat in the summer. My in laws or at least my father in law plans on retiring down there. That has changed since we had our baby and they now don't want to move as far away. We try to go once a year of we can and plan doing that for the coming years. Crap if I won the lottery I would go 3 or 4 times a year. It's is no different than guys who would hunt all year if they could or spend every waking moment on the beach. I like never being more than a short walk away from a bar or restaurant or live music venue with world class customer service. It's the convenience that makes it for me.

A family of four can do Disney for a week for $4k

How you spend that $4k would very on whether you drive or fly, stay on grounds or off and if on grounds at what resort.

But we've done a family of three for $4k for 10 days Amat a deluxe resort by renting timeshare points so I'm confident you can do it for $4k

Hell, just drop the resort to value or go through one of those companies that offers conference rates and it can be done for $3K or less easily.

The service was unreal. Yes it can be a crazy crowded cash trap....but damn, they go out of their way to make you feel that it is appreciated. Whether it is the dad rubbing two nickels together to get the family there for a day or the dad dropping major coin to stay at the Floridian for ten days.....disney has figured out how to both their families feel equally appreciated.

Agree wholeheartedly.

We were there last summer and the staff -- regardless of where you are -- goes out of their way to make your experience a memorable and enjoyable one.

Free dining dates were announced earlier today:

quote:

Booking window: April 27 – July 10, 2015 Valid most nights when your arrive: August 28-October 2, 2015 October 25-October 31, 2015 November 8-November 19, 2015 December 15-December 21, 2015 When you stay at a select Disney Moderate Resort, Disney Deluxe Resort or Disney Deluxe Villa Resort, you get the standard Disney Dining Plan. When you stay at a select Disney Value Resort, you get the Quick-Service Dining Plan. (You may upgrade to Standard Dining Plan for a fee.)

The days that are least crowded will basically be any time kids are scheduled to be in school.
I recommend easywdw.com for tons of great info s d our personal preferences are either second week of January, second week of December (Christmas time is awesom there) or the middle of October

I know it can be done for cheaper, but I don't think cheaper is always better. Especially for someone like salmon whom I am guessing would prefer the extra " room" you get by avoiding a value resort or hassle of an off site hotel.

The three biggest differences between value and moderates are moderates have hot tubs, table device dining and less people than moderates. The rooms themselves are basically the same in regards to size and what they offer. You need to jump to a villa or a deluxe resort for significant changes in the room from something found at art of animation or pop century.

we normally try to budget about $5k for vacations

that usually gets us 1 "big" vacation and a couple of extended weekend trips to places like NOLA or Austin

so if we could do a decent trip for $3k to DW, then it wouldn't be too bad

I just worry that if we do DW for cheap, I'm going to be stuck with the fatmobile crowd

I've done DW for cheap and I've done it for more expensive

If you can swing it, it's better to pay more

also doesn't account for the 2500 or so i'll spend on other things as well..

A normal Disney trip after reviewing receipts ...I typically spend anywhere from 6-9k depending on length of stay..
