Ford has NOTHING to do with the current Range Rover.

That's why they're so nice.

In marketing you are taught perceived value.

If you sell something for cheap, people will think it's a cheap inferior product, if you sell something at an inflated price people will think it's worth that.
You price items at what you can sell them at. If you can sell a $50k car for $100k then of course you would do that.

To many it's seen as a luxury marquee, but most of us know the quality is shite.

In the Range Rover price range the best value for the buck is the Landcruiser. But people see that and say "eww a Toyota they sell cheap cars too" So then Toyota in the US puts different badges on some cars, we call that a Lexus.

To ensure that the buyer has enough money to fix them when they break down (which I've heard is quite frequently).

Because they have a bunch of random, sometimes unnecessary, features that you wouldn't think of that will only break down on you shortly after purchase.

Not close to a Ford Explorer. By far the funnest SUV I've driven. Handles like a dream. But all the people I've known with them have had issues. If you have enough money to not care about maintenance, then it's a good buy.
