Which will your wife or girl friend be more impressed with a 1.5ct princess cut diamond you got from a pawn shop for 10cents on the dollar, or the exact same stone for retail price at a high end jeweler
how would they know?

I'm about to have to buy one this coming month. I hate that I have to buy it, but that's just the way it is. I'll bite the bullet and move one.

Seems like a terrible way to symbolize the love you have for your significant other,
It's not the diamond's fault. They don't dictate what man does to one another in the name of profit.

Sure, and there was absolutely nothing but seriousness in that first post you quoted, and this one too.

Are you denying that's a narrative that a lot of people buy into? I understand hyperbole and all, but come on.

Well, you parroted it. I apologize for my extrapolation, if that was indeed the case. Carry on.

I figured the terrible OP deserved an equally appropriate response. It's all good.

I'm not bashing women for being superficial.

I know, I was just expounding on your point in order to contradict what others were saying in this thread. "Because women" is a perfectly acceptable answer to the OP, but some are acting like men are incapable of falling for the same types of marketing schemes and status symbols, and that is certainly not the case.

I still like them. But I love all sparkly stones, regardless of worth.

Same. Just because a woman likes diamonds...doesn't mean she is expecting her man to spend $$$$$ for diamond jewelry.

Women have always loved jewelry and things that sparkle. Guys that bitch about diamonds are just cheap and want to try and justify their cheapness.

Nice objective and broad sweeping whore-like opinion.

We can definitely agree on that one. I've always found luxury watches to be interesting.

The first watch costs $7000. The second costs $900.

Luxury cars I can at least understand. Luxury watches, I don't think I ever will.

It's true though.

If you don't make a lot and are dating a woman that expects a massive rock when yall get engaged...well that is your own fault for picking someone so shallow that isn't considering the big picture(your shared finances as a married couple).

Again...nothing wrong with a woman liking diamonds. Doesn't make us "whore-like".

Anytime I've heard a guy irl give his whole spill about why diamonds are worthless and how the whole engagement ring was a fabricated tradition by DeBeers....it has been from a guy that I know is also painfully frugal.

You're right but if you get your wife something other than a diamond, she's going to look like some cheap whore when she's around her married friends and you're the a-hole. Sometimes you just have to just acknowledge that something is stupid and then deal with it.
