Pretty easy to be flush with prison cash when your national defense is literally some guy with a hand crank siren sitting at the border

I'd settle for Austria I guess.

I would like the free music lessons though. I also like the flat screen TVs

Yeah. That one would be cool. I like the basketball courts. I need my exercise. Walking around the island would be fun though.

Seriously though. If they'd let me out of the prison to sight see, I'd settle for this over paying for an apartment in these countries.

Seems like the only thing a prisoner needs to reform is a fully paid vacation for a year or 12.

That's what you would do? I was envisioning catching fish from horseback completely naked.

Yeah, thats the one im shooting for. I figure a booze and drug binge may do the trick. Maybe a DUI or two.

I didn't watch your video but I remember reading an article a year or 2 ago about the guy that killed 80 people in Norway was really upset he only had a PS3 and sued for a PS4.

Those are not prisons, they are "time out" facilities. If those were in the US, a lot of people would probably break the law in order to get a room.

The homeless would continually be there

The jails are nicer than low rent government property

I'm fine with TVs in prison cells. And I think US prisons should be more humane, but these go way too far in the opposite direction.

My CSB.

If I ever get diagnosed with a terminal illness, I don't want my treatments to diminish the sum I will leave my family.

There is a short list of people that will put me on the State medical plan.

You lie in some of the same hospitals as a felon, and its free.

...just saying.

Different goals. The US prison system is set up to make money for the operators and make us feel good about being tough on crime. Elsewhere they are actually trying to reform and rehabilitate the inmates to be functional members of society when they leave.

THIS. And, I would add that the continued criminalization of drugs is something I'll never understand. Hell, our state is the national leader in percentage of the population incarcerated in a nation with some of the highest percentages in the world. We're steering our state off a fiscal cliff, and we still can't even get commonsense criminal justice reforms that would save taxpayers millions.

They need to decriminalize some things. Possession of certain drugs would be a decent place to start. Drug courts are a good idea.

They should do away with the 3 strikes law. I know people are pro-death penalty but it's much more expensive than prison

Youthful offenders should be taken into account as well. I'm not sure where our criminal justice system has gone wrong with ditching juvenile law. I've seen 14 year olds charged as adults lately. And I'm not sure where the idea is coming from to attempt to charge people for crimes where no crime exists.
