Who here has attended the rope drop at Disney?

We leave in 2 days for Disney. We went year and a half ago but never attended a park opening. We always showed about 10:00 o'clock or so and shut the park down.
Are the rope drops pretty packed? We are trying a different tactic this trip. We have all our fast passes in the afternoon when they are busy, and trying to beat the crowds in the AM.

I avoid it now, but I only go off peak. If you are going during summer you may want to get there early for the best rides/ meet and greats.

We did one day. It was extra magic hours though so it wasn't quite as packed.
It's really nothing crazy. You actually scan your ticket and go just inside the gate and then they release you when it's time.

We're going Friday. I have zero expectation of fun. It's for the kids.

That's a shitty attitude to go into it with

I'm going in with zero expectation of having fun. So if I have any, it's a win. It's going to be 200 degrees and there's going to be a million people there. My only goal is to provide as much enjoyment for my kids and nephews as possible.

I have been in the park prior to rope drop with reservationsome at be our guest before park opening. It was nice to get pictures without people. Fwiw wdw has become unbearable especially in the last two years.

just got home an hour ago. Went on Friday but we're annual Florida resident pass holders and wanted to go before summer blackout. Crowds were not bad all weekend especially fridayFriday and sat nights (Friday had 15-20 min waits or less for all rides not named mine train or Peter Pan. Today was absolutely insane (we had a few paper fast passes left and went for about 3 hours before coming hone). 90-100 min waits for popular rides, 45 for less popular like small world and even 75 for freaking dumbo.
Godspeed to anyone leaving this week.

You honestly made a mistake going this week.
However, just remember, it's not for you, it's for the kids so stay patient and get a beer and let your kids have fun.
Yes, they do sell alcohol on the properties. I highly recommend this

We always try to get there when the park opens. You can ride several rides with basically no wait and not be shoulder to shoulder with people just walking around. We try to go back to the resort for a couple of hours in the afternoon to let the kids take a break and then head back to the park that evening and use fast passes previously booked for the big ticket rides we want to do again.

I liked the old Fast Pass system when I could sprint to the machines, get my Fast Pass for the next hour, and then wait in a short line for a premier ride. This advance Fast Pass system rewards the lazy and the slow.

Lazy and slow don't plan that far out to get what they want. Planners still benefit from this system.

I did it this morning. It is not as bad as people proclaim. You expect it to be crowded and it is, but once you get pass Main Street it is open.
