You should stand both of them up separately and tell them you're not going to be used as a pawn or put in the middle. Don't even get into the situation (if possible)...easier said than done.

PS - your family sounds trashy

Why are you even asking this question? Tell them both to STFU.

Or side with your wife; she is probably more likely to poison your food.

Minor Hijack:

The question made me think of a real life situation from when I was married. For about a year my wife worked for my brother. He fired her for being chronically late for work. After listening to her make excuses, bitch, and belittle my brother for firing her. I told her that I would have fired her arse too.

Things never were quite the same and Holidays were a tad tense.

This likely has a lot to do with why wives are temporary for you.

Fortunately I've never been put in this situation as they get along greatly, but I have to think wife unless it's egregious.

Wife. It's sad you have to ask.

Yeah, anyone who is going to support their parents over their spouse in a rational argument is someone you don't want to marry. That's the biggest red flag I can think of for marriage material.

Who's gonna live longer?

That's who I'd side with.

Dude, your mom stepped way over the line with this. Politely tell her that your wife is your wife and she needs to respect that. You will NEVER have peace until you have this conversation. Good luck

Why does your mom think you should leave her? That would be alarming to me.

I think most reasonable mothers wouldn't interject such an opinion like that. Did she cite some serious concern or is it just that she doesn't like her?

My mom died years before I ever met my wife so it's never been an issue.

This.

I love reading the stories on /r/justnoMIL

Makes for good entertainment. Women who post there with MIL horror stories but who don't have a husband standing up for them are often told, "You don't have a MIL problem. You have a husband problem".

And semen is thicker than blood-- so unless he's going to sleep with his mom, he should get with the program-- either side with his wife, or tell them both to STFU, and hold his own for a while until the wife calms down.

Is there a situation going on where multiple people along with your mom see a problem and you dont bc love is blind? Spouses tend to not see problems so quickly and when people truly care about you, it pains them to see you miserable or being taken advantage of (if thats the case). There has to be more to the story than "my mon wants me to leave my wife".
