I've had a .308 bullet zinged past me before. Scary shite.

Coming to a stop behind a pick-up truck at a left-turn red light... decided at the last second to swerve around the truck and go straight through the green light.
Right as I swerved I noticed in the dark that the pick up truck had a long-arse pole sticking straight back at head level. If I had continued forward as I was, it would've come through the windshield and taken my head off.

I barely missed getting nailed on a felony narcotics charge or two. Could've spent time in the California or Arkansas state prison systems.

As a hot shot driver, way more times than any human ever should. The blue ribbon probably goes to the time a guy took a shot at me near Catarina, tx. I kept the spider web on my windshield for a year as a reminder of what "easy money" really costs.

Driving a pickup while at work. Drove behind a cherry picker that was lowering some cargo into the hold of a barge. Cable broke and came flying at me. The shredded cable cut throughout the drivers side door and window as I lunged as quickly and as far onto the passenger side as possible. A few inches more and I would have been headless.

Another war story.
On a hill in "The Nam".
I'm a corpsman and suppose fill in on perimeter watch for a marine who is going to man a listening post outside the perimeter. Late in the night the marine relieves me because another listening post on the other side of the hill hears movement, and all listening posts are pulled. Later, we get hit with a mortar attack and the marine is killed standing watch in that position where I was suppose to be standing watch. What you would call a direct hit from a mortar round. I'll spare you the details.
Other bullets dodged and some that weren't, but you'll have to wait for the movie.
To all Nam Vets and my marine brothers, WELCOME HOME!

Today, I was driving down the road in Crystal Springs, Ms by the sports complex, talking on the phone and all the sudden I heard gunshots...pop pop pop. There were a group of black kids in the parking lot and this one kid was popping caps with a 9 or 40. Kids were running in all directions trying to get away. I was 50' from the shite.

Sendero Luminoso - Southern Peruvian Amazon basin. I dare you to wear a Che shirt around me...
Also - 80's in Murphy's parking lot. Southside Wrecking Crew or Smurfs put a gun to my head.

I turned down an offer on just a "bad feeling" and accepted elsewhere.
Two months later, there was a hostile takeover and fired a lot of new associates. Go me.

You guys flew over me a thousand times. I always felt like I could just reach up and touch you because y'all were so low. It is hard to believe that was 23 years ago!
I need to send you a picture of a ZSU we captured. That's the one with the 4 barrels right.

Friend of mine and I were fishing one night. Our friend owned a camp out on Hayne Boulevard in New Orleans and a few families were spending the weekend out there.
We were out on the far back deck, about 150 yards from the house. We heard whizzing, literally bullets passing close. There was a heavy picnic table out there that we dove under.
Think there were some "locals" standing on the levee shooting at us. There was a rough apartment complex a couple blocks down, near Read Boulevard.
They were shooting at us for some reason or other.

Walking to Bogie's from JL's free drinks a few years back. Big old school suburban comes barreling out of the house parking lot and slams on the breaks to stop about 3 inches from hitting me and my roommate. Being drunk and feeling like a badass i slammed my fists on the hood and started yelling at him. Thought it was over and kept walking but he pulled up right beside us and started talking shite to me so I got closer to him to talk shite (basically had my head in his passenger window) and he draws a pistol and points it straight at my face. Being drunk and dumb and way overly confident I told him he better shoot me because I was going to fricking kill him. He called me a crazy white boy and drove off. Still to this day I think that was the stupidest sentence to ever come out of my mouth. Who the frick did I think I was?
Cliffs:
lucky to not get run over
lucky o not get shot for being stupid
