Cole Haan is good for a lot of things but their quality has taken a nosedive in the past 4-5 years. Good starter point and can still get good deals there especially if you don't like leather soles.

Some may scuff at the idea but I bought used Allen Edmonds from eBay and they are in fantastic condition. Was $60 for brown Park avenues. When they get to the point where they need to be redone, I'll send them to Allen Edmonds and get them completely redone for 150.

I've got a few AEs, Ferragamo, Magnanni, but I like my To Boot shoes more than any of the others. I've had a pair of their Chelseas now forever. I'm hard on those shoes and they still look fantastic. I take them to the cobbler about once a year or so, and they come back good as new.

A great deal, but AE won't accept them if ANY work has been done on them by someone other than AE.

Allen Edmonds has a sale once or twice a year. That's what I get when I need some.

Correct. Just bought these from Reed's in Tupelo yesterday.

Also like Neil Murphy. Got these at George Sherman in Starkville and still love these. These are known as the "Black Presidents."

Have you ever seen the AEs on eBay that have the "no warranty" stamped on the sole. I've seen them where there is a minute defect. Like discoloring between the welt and the upper that is not noticeable at all and will quickly be less than typical wear and tear. Shoes are like 159 bucks. Wondering if you can still send those in for recrafting. The "no warranty stamp can easily be "worn off" so theyd never know.

When you say next size, are you sizing up on width to E or EE?

I went as wide as you can go with AE, so then I had to go up in length.

I like Allen Edmonds and Alden (support American bruh), but I also am partial to Tods Farragamo. AE and Alden don't have many casual shoes that I like though. I like their cap toes. The Italian Tods and Ferragamo are probably better shoes. Alden can compete with the European guys I think. AE not so much.

Allen Edmonds. Have 8 pairs I rotate. Some are 13 years old. Have put a lot of soles on the older ones but they still look great.

Alden - used to be Allen Edmonds, but that last few pairs of AE I bought had some issues.

Spend $350 on Allen Edmonds and wear for 20 years, or spend $150 on anything else and wear for 2 years.
Not as true any more - had a black pair where the toe cap creased after a month (and I rotate my shoes and use shoe trees). Had another brown paid develop wrinkles (though the shoes were damn comfortable so I converted them to shoes to wear with jeans). I have three pair from 10 years ago that look great (each has been resoled a few times) - much better than the two pair I bought a couple of years ago. I switched to Alden.

If you're just getting out of college and don't have a ton of money yet buy JMs. If you have the money definitely go to AEs.

I've owned at least 6 different pairs of JMs and 6 Allen Edmonds. The quality of the Allen Edmonds compared to JMs isn't even in the same zip code. I realize they're about 1/3 the price but you will get 10+ years out of your Allen Edmonds easily. They're also a lot more comfortable since the cork molds to your foot.

I've never tried the Alden's. thinking about it but been so happy with the AEs the last 5 years I just haven't ventured over.
