We would NEVER give that much!! I personally think $5 is too much. You know how grandmothers are though.

Damn, our cheap-arse Tooth Fairy only gives $2 in gold dollar coins and a calligraphied note reminding them to brush & floss. First tooth may have gotten a few dollars more, plus a new fun toothbrush.

basically, now is the time to introduce him (in a fun way) to the concept of money and what it takes to buy what you want/need...if he is mature enough, you might even try to teach him to save up a couple of tooth's worth to get something a little bigger...

Man, this thread is bringing back memories and the excitement I had as a child for the tooth fairy, Santa, the Easter bunny, and so on. It was a special thing being innocent, wondrous and actually believing magic and fairy tales exist. Being an adult is awesome as shite but sometimes in moments like these, I wish I could be a kid again and just believe.

We did $5 for the first and $1 after. Works well. The kids are just excited to get money. The dollar amount doesn't mean all that much to them. If you give them too much they'll want to rip teeth out to make money.
