Like I said earlier, each state is different.

It's actually a pretty genius idea. Lots of people will donate because they feel like it is a good cause. Even those that disagree with asking for money for such a thing will either donate or keep their mouth shut because who would say anything about this, publicly?

Not a baby...he was 9. Florida is also paying his college tuition. Like I said when it comes to adopting kids "in the system", Florida has it going on. This beats the shite out of the normal Florida posts

That is cool, I asked during the adoption about scholarships for adopted children. They told us that the state Alabama doesn't offer this but there were private scholarship funds for adopted children.

Just spent $33K. Put large sum down and finance the balance for 2 years.

Actually embryo adoption. Much better than going through the drug head 16 year old pregnant chick wanting all her bills paid for 9 months with no guarantee since she can change her mind within 3 days after birth. Tried that..frick that.

If I know the people and know they are good parents I have donated and would again. Adoption is a big need and it's not for everyone but by helping a family who doesn't have 40 grand cash to adopt a baby you could be saving a life.

I think you would be surprised by the number of people using social media platforms, and stuff like gofundme to raise money for adoptions.

My wife and I considered the international adoption route, and could have financed the 40K it would have cost us to adopt from an asian nation, but then we realized the vast need for foster care help here in the states.

Hopefully we will be ready to start receiving children by the end of the year and it will cost us almost nothing when we find a child to adopt.

Like was said earlier, those paying out the arse are paying for a certain type of kid.

I support it if they are truly capable of giving the child a good home and can't have their own biologically.

This. An acquaintance adopted a 9 month old baby in New Orleans for the cost of the court papers. He's black and his both his parents are in jail. He's 7 now and an awesome little kid. His single mother is white.

2 friends from college who got married couldn't conceive. Went the adoption route through Catholic Charities. Cost them like $35k when all was said and done. They had to have a white baby.

Yep. Back before we had kids & during a time we thought we might never have kids, we discussed adoption. My mom was adopted, and I always thought of it as noble, normal, etc. Mr. 1999 had a harder time accepting the idea, but we agreed that IF we ever did, we'd prefer to adopt a black child from Louisiana, mainly in order to help the child, but also bc it would send certain elements of our families into tailspin conniptions

In answer to the OP, it's maybe a little trashy, but there's worse things to ask for money for. A friend of a friend on FB came up with a clever solution, though. The wife sewed, and she made customized bibs and burp cloths for about $8-11 each. They sold several thousand, and were able to fund most of the adoption & subsequent med bills (baby had some kind of lung defect that required additional care).

It disheartens me to read some of these replies. The insensitive responses of a few of the posters goes to prove that they have ZERO knowledge of Louisiana adoptions. I personally am going through the adoption process myself (and currently NOT doing a go fund me campaign). I can certainly see why some couples are choosing to go this route. Adoption costs in Louisiana can be overwhelming ($12,000-60,000). There are MANY couples who would make AMAZING parents but can not financially come up with that amount of money at one time. Yes, going through DCFS is virtually free. But sometimes DCFS is not a viable option for your family (as in our case). First off, you run the risk of loving a child as your own for 364 days and then on that 365th day, the biological parents can suddenly get their life together and take the baby from you. All DCFS children must go through the foster to adopt program for that year before they are eligible for adoption. You also have NO preparation time for these children. If you get a call, you have to make that decision right then and there. Most people are not in the situation where they don't have to make prior arrangements with their employer for maternity/paternity leave for the 6-8 weeks before the child is old enough for daycare. The number of DCFS HEALTHY infants is so low that it can take YEARS before you find that. This is why we are going though private adoption. Yes, it is more expensive. But emotionally, we can not handle raising a child for a year and then he/she is just ripped from our homes. it isn't about "picking and choosing a white baby" as some of you have so eloquently put it. It's about minimizing the risk of heartbreak to your family.
Furthermore, you can't just "get a loan" for adoption that easily, it's not buying a house or a car where every bank has a loan program for it. Have YOU ever tried taking out a $12-60k unsecured loan?? So before you cast your stones of judgment calling this trashy, why not put yourself in someone else's situation --- financially stable couples can quite easily cover every day costs and minor unexpected expenses as have been referred to. But it's not uncommon for someone to be incapable of coming up with $12,000-$60,000 UPFRONT on top of having these every day expenditures that you have to plan for.

Using GoFundMe for stuff like fertility treatments, adoption, etc is just a symptom of the bigger problem, which is the Socialist mindset. This belief that your financial needs are everyone else's responsibility is nonsense.

Out of the corner of my eye, I thought this thread was about the OT getting money together to adopt it's own child. I am disappoint.

That would have been the most well adjusted, non-trashy, genius, wealthy baby ever to grace this planet. I would have pitched in a $20.

That would suck big time. At least that child would have proper care, nutrition and love for that first year.

My wife's friend applied in Florida. They will give you a six pack of black babies almost immediately if you want them. She got one, then a second one a year later. They are cute kids that dress and act like little princesses.

They do not know, or care that the "Mom" feeding them, hugging them, band-aiding them, and buying them toys is not biological.
