The Samsung dryer thread made me think...

...we bought our washing machine in the summer of 1997. It has never broken down and still works like it did the day we bought it. 19 years!

Almond GE refrigerator purchased in summer of 1986. It's been outside for 10 years and the exterior is rusting but it's still running great.

The upright freezer we bought in 1987 is next to it and still running great.

I had a Whirlpool washer and dryer set that was almost 20 years old when I replaced them with a new Whirlpool set. I made several repairs to the old set over the years, but I'm not a millennial and can actually turn a screwdriver.

All of my stuff is new (last 5 years) but my dad's fridge is about 20 years old.

I wouldn't consider a toaster a major appliance, but that is impressive!

I don't know how else to say this so I'll be blunt - you've got cancer.

Our dishwasher is very '70s. It doesn't work super well and it drives my mom nuts. I always yell at my dad to get her a new dishwasher when she complains about dishes coming out still dirty.

Built the house in 2003.

In the last 3-4 years, I have replaced the washer, dryer, fridge, freezer, disposal..and last month, a 5-ton AC unit. Yesterday, the turntable in the microwave started to make a grinding noise and stopped working, and the pan under one of the water heaters started to collect water as well. So those 2 items will need to be replaced soon.

Last year I replaced half the windows in the house as the seals that holds the Argonne gas in leaked, causing them to totally fog over. Now the other half have started to fog over. Those will have to be changed out this summer.

Just when you think everything's running just fine, some big dinger is just around the corner...now I truly understand why my dad always bitched "It never friggin ends"

Autocorrect--I type Argonne Blvd. in Lakeview sometimes, so I guess that is the default over Argon on my iPad.

My house had a 30 yr old Rheem water heater and a 25 yr old Rheem A/c. The a/c was working but needed new freon every summer. The water heater was working flawlessly. I replaced both about a year after buying. Figured the water heater would burst eventually, so decided to just replace it. The new one, a Bradford White, will probably last 8-10 yrs...maybe. The new A/C might last 15 yrs.
They just don't make stuff like they used to.

man, if you have a water heater that is leaking, you don't need to replace it soon...you need to replace it tomorrow.

you are not far at all away from coming home to a flooded house.
