No. If you didn't RSVP and you didn't have lunch, you don't owe them anything. Cupcakes in the employee break room are a free for all.

If cupcakes aren't for everyone, don't put them in the break room.

This is a crazy way of thinking. Somebody paid for the food. This isn't a moneymaking scheme. Do the right thing and reimburse the person who shelled out the money.

They have it on video like Elaine Benes eating the slice of wedding cake that Mr. Peterman bought at auction.

He is dancing round too cause he thought he scored free cake.

Why is it crazy? I agree he should just pay the $8 to be done with it, but don't you think it's more crazy to reimburse someone for something he didn't take part in? You think it's crazy for someone to not want to pay for something they didn't attend?

I'd pay the $8 while contemplating sending $3.50 and picture of a Loch Ness Monster.

The cupcake is the key. You ate it, you should pay. Simple as that.

Pay it just to avoid any drama and to look good.

It's $8.

Don't pay, a little office drama helps liven the day up.

Once the food is left out for all to eat, it's no longer part of the event. You didn't attend the event, you are under no obligation to pay for it.

I would be pissed to get an email like that if I was the guy on vacation. frick that lady.

I just dug in the couch behind me and pulled out 4. Just holding them in my hand I would think 800 would weigh about 4.405 pounds...or so.

Pay the $8 then randomly take a couple of folks' lunches out of the fridge to break even.

You kind of have to pay it, but those co-workers are dicks

If you're the boss or owner of the company, then I'd pay. But if you're on the same employment level as those who participated, I wouldn't pay. If someone brings it up to you, just remind them that you didn't RSVP to the lunch, so they shouldn't have been counting you in the number of people they were feeding.

Also, you must work with nothing but women because I've never heard of co-workers throwing a baby shower.

Give them a $10 bill and tell them to keep the change to avoid the office drama. You may not realize how much that's worth.

They may just have lumped you in there to really target the others if you didn't RSVP. whoever may end up giving you your money back.

The OP with the Jew SN (clue, perhaps?) could approach the lady and say:

Eli: "Surely co-worker X, who was on vacation and did not participate is not expected to pay, is he"?

Office bitch: "NO, not if he did not participate".

Eli: "Well, I did not participate either as I was on a the conference call, keeping this place afloat. So what gives with my having to pay"?

Reply saying you will pay the $8.00, but also mention you did not attend.
