It's 8 bucks, just pay it. It's bullshite, but what is worth more to you, 8 bucks or the bullshite?

I still got the email.
One guy who was on vacation last week also received the email.
So was it sent to a group? Or each contact individually?

Really makes dipping your pen in company ink even more taboo.

We were told to RSVP if we wanted to partake in the catered lunch. I didn't RSVP due to a conflicting conference call
Not to split hairs but usually RSVP is asking 'yes or no'. Are you sure it didn't say 'regrets only' in which case your failure to reply is an acceptance?

The lady who was organizing the even has an office directly across the hall from mine...she knew I wouldn't be attending.

Write a check for the 8 bucks and deduct it on your taxes...but make a big deal about it so when they fire you next week for being an outcast troublemaker who can't get along, it will seem justified.

What, specifically, is your question?

No. If you didn't RSVP and you didn't have lunch, you don't owe them anything.

Do this and next time this happens, eat 16.00 worth.

Like my pappy used to say "Sometimes even when you're right, you're wrong"
Pay the money
Pay the money

This is the correct answer.

Don't look like a cheap skate, just pay the $8.
Posted on 7/5/17 at 8:48 am to Eli Goldfinger
Man or woman who emailed you?

That's the answer if you're using logic.
However, I'll pay the $8 just to avoid the drama.

"Thanks for the email. I hope everyone had a great time at the lunch for Sue. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend. However, if for some unexpected reason you end up short on the food bill, please reach back out to me and I will see if I can assist in any deficit created by those who may have attended, but did not pay."

That was your mistake. If you had, then you could simply reply to the money request with a copy of the email saying you were not attending.
