Chicken and sausage gumbo, hands down. She was so coon arse she didn't even speak English. In fact, none of my grand parents did. And dad had to learn English when he started school, would get paddled on the hands and arse for speaking Cajun French at school! Guess it's just my way of saying I ate some authentic Cajun foods!

Breakfast. Usually scratch biscuits, bacon etc. All the meat and veggies were grown on her farm.

I would get up at 5a with her and help, then go feed animals. She was an incredible lady.

Mine a little table top electric fryer, never used a pot on a stove for frying. She made the best fried chicken and beneight’s with that thing. I wonder where that little fryer ended up after she passed away. Also she would cook thin cut ribeyes on the cool top never on a grill. She also made great fudge and other candies. Drank old Charter on the rocks Daily. I miss that woman.

I have a huge family and we have all watched her make it. I even asked for "the recipe" and wrote it down. No one can make it taste like hers

My father's mother and grandmother were evil witches in the kitchen with Italian food. Their meatballs and spaghetti were insanely good . The would put pig's feet in the gravy and then simmer it down for hours. The best though would be my great grandmother's braciole. She was 93 and working all day on a Saturday to make that stuff. My grandmother was no slouch on it either but Maw Maw's would make you question your existence it was so good.

Mom's family was from New Zealand, she was Greek and her mother was really good with leg of lamb and her moussaka was nothing to sneeze at especially the bechamel on top that she would mix sheep's milk into along with feta and haloumi cheese. My great grandmother had her moussaka when she came for a visit to the states , said it might have been one of the best things she ever ate

I would love to have some of Maw Maw's turtle soup right now. Her dirty rice has never been replicated either. Many have tried, none have succeeded.

Grandparents had a an (about) 1 acre garden. They never bought a vegetable in my or my Pop’s life. Because of this (I think), I was never one of those kids who hated vegetables, except for snap beans and beans/peas, because us kids were forced to sit on the back porch and shuck, hill and snap.

Her black eyed peas and her drop biscuits (she made every morning) were probably my favorite.

My grandma passed away 15 years ago (I'm old, 62) but I have wonderful memories of her, and my pawpaw. Like yours, her biscuits were unbelievable. But we just slopped them in syrup and butter. I was a scrawny kid and it is a wonder as I spent as much time as I could at her house. Cheers....

My grandmother doesn’t cook as much anymore since my grandfather passed but here a few things that I love that she cooks:

Roast rice and gravy, fried okra, English peas and cornbread
Spaghetti and meatballs - and it’s crazy how simple hers is - an Italian would probably stroke out the ingredients.
Chicken casserole
Fried chicken
Fried squash
Fried catfish
Her version of chili
Tomato steak and gravy

I try to sit down with her after meals and pick her brain. She has no actually written recipes.

Love the thread subject OP.

Enjoy them. I lost my Paw Paw 5 years ago and it has never been the same. Maw Maw doesn't cook anymore.. We did everything at their house growing up. Nothing is the same
