Give me one similar example of anything like that gang rape ever happening at any Spring Break destination ever.
Again why are you pigeon holing this thing to spring break? Terrible things have happened to people within range of others and they did nothing to stop it; it's not generational
Just because I don't have an account of a specific location during a specific time of year doing a specific act of violence doesn't mean that the generation as a whole is full of immoral rapists because of one instance during a specific time at a specific place watching a specific act of violence
There is a sociological aspect of this that dates because long before this generation was born

You're wrong. This modern day acceptable lack of morality it what breeds this type of behavior. And makes people like you explain it away as if things are like they always were. No better, No worse. In my generation there would be no shortage of guys ready to forcefully correct the behavior of a disgusting pig that rapes a passed out girl. Alone or on a crowded beach. Today they stand around and watch, at best thinking that's a shame, but it ain't me so... At worst they cheer it on or even jump in. It's a generational problem, lack of morality, human decency, and IMO, personally a direct result of killing Christianity in this country.
Your nostalgia blind you. The concept of "back in my day" is utter bullshite. Bad shite has always happened. If anything bad shite happens on a lower basis than it ever did, we just have a 24 hour new coverage of the shite that happens

while i agree to a point, i dont think there was near the number of cruel and mean people out there 20-30 years ago as they are now.

You're trying to compare people in their apartments scared to go out and help someone out of fear of becoming a victim themselves to a crowd of people standing literally right next to a passed out girl being gang raped and instead of helping, they decide to film it. If you can't see how truly fricked up and morally bankrupt this is, then there's no help for you. Of course I should not be surprised. Along with being totally self absorbed, another hallmark of this generation coming up is nothing is ever their fault.

My fraternity brother fell 6 stories into the sand and walked away. Wore a neck brace thing for a while but that was it.
No joke, it was some scary/stupid shite. I get freaked the frick out around balconies now and drinking.
too many young kids have died because of that crap.

You're apathy is cause for alarm.
I'm so glad that I have a sense of morality that won't allow me to go to sleep at night saying, "Girls get gang raped on beaches, such is life..." But you keep pushing sociology, and acceptance of ever shrinking morality., I'm sure there are people out there looking for that message to explain away their behavior.

Actually there may have been, but what has changes is social acceptance of this behavior over the last 20-30 years. People are no longer held accountable for their actions. They're a product of a bad home life, or bad neighborhood, or any number of these sociology crap talking points. Years ago, do dumb shite, win dumb prizes. Today..Do dumb shite, become Youtube star.

A buddy of mine bought all his beer/liquor in Alabama and tried to go across the state line into Florida with it. There was a road block, normally nothing to worry about. But these guys had all the beer clearly visible in the car. Cop told them he couldn't let them take it across the state line, but he didn't want to be a total douche, so he told them to pull over and everyone except the driver could drink as much of it as they wanted right there and he'd let them all play with his breathalyzer. They had to pour out several cases of beer in the end but said it was worth it for a pretty good story.

Population has grown since then. Now the proportion of cruel and mean people to decent folk may or may not have changed, I don't know that. I think the prevalence of the presumably being on camera all the time has made some people act out in order to get online attention. Those people who may not have acted that way before. I'm not an academic, maybe someone can do a thesis or dissertation on this.

quote:Well violent crimes have dropped steadily and significantly in the last 20-30 years. So either your hypothesis is incorrect (most likely) or cruel and mean poeple are being less cruel and mean.
