That's a very ironic statement. I'm as far from a "liberal" as one could get, build most everything I have, fix my own vehicles, etc.. I just don't see the point in building more house than I need. To me, it's just a waste of my time and resources.

Uhhh, you never seen the show about tiny house living. They are extremely expensive per square foot. And not very practical. And the tiny house peeps don't build most everything they have.

I don't get how they justify spending 50k on a 150 SF house, knowing they could triple the size for the same price or less...assuming they aren't trying to be mobile

Name something that costs less that would allow them to feel superior to 99.9% of the other humans? Tesla went and screwed up green cars by making them cool.

I agree the majority are annoyingly judgemental and probably think they're better than everyone else because they paid double per sq/ft than everyone else. But there is also the subset that likes the more rugged way of life, living off the grid and traveling frequently.

I like the freedom it affords in terms of ease of movement and retirement age. If I can quit working 10 years earlier than I could otherwise, I'm all for it. Regardless, I can build a very functional space cheaper than I can buy a 5th wheel. Plus, I like the creative element you can put into building non-traditional type housing, where every inch has to be well thought out and functional.

I know a guy who currently lives in a tiny home. I definitely see the advantages in doing it (especially if single). But I'm a bit skeptical of the whole idea if you had an SO or even a family.

He's an architect in Austin.

Love my tiny house, 440 sq ft, for a deer camp. One bedroom and a living area. If single, it would be fine. If you ever move out of your 3,000-4,000 sq ft house, you'll come across so much stuff and have no idea why you even have it.

but some are taking it too far and act like they have never heard of a trailer

For what they pay for those little things that are marginally road worthy they could buy a loaded 5th wheel with slide outs and more creature comforts. I could see having one of those for a camp out in the woods somewhere but no way a full time residence.

Yeah you are screwed if you get in a fight with your SO. There is no cooling off in different parts of the house.

My husband and I would not survive in a tiny house. We both need our own space at times in order to function.

I'm also claustrophobic as hell. Seeing the tiny houses fascinates me though, especially seeing how they get creative in utilizing all space as possible.

a lot of them are beautifully designed and I think that is the appeal, is that people can build high end "homes" for cheap while sacrificing square footage, otherwise these people would just buy a used trailer if they were doing this to live "simply"

I have no argument with most of your post

I absolutely agree with that. I told my wife many years ago I want a house that is energy efficient, space efficient, and clean efficient. But the shows on tv are impractical. Especially if you are still sexually active and kids are living in the house. Those peeps are having either no sex or major boring sex.

I think there is a happy medium between wayyyy too big and super tiny.

And 300sq feet is NOT that happy medium.

Agreed. I don't think that I need more than 1800-2000 sq ft.

Blowing money on an asset guaranteed to depreciate. It's basically a placeholder for the land it sits on. Subsequent buyers will probably demolish the whole thing and start over with their own playhouse design.

Yeah, zero chance I'd live in one with children. Zero privacy for anyone involved and screams trying too hard. Two people is the limit for anything under 500 sq/ft.

I'm in my 4th house, and have gone bigger every time. I'm actually adding square footage to the house I got in April to put in a media room, no way I'm going smaller with fewer amenities.
