Just don't let your daughter get mixed up with Jessie Pinkman and you should be fine.

Military is your best option. Besides superior training, you can build up your hours. I know guys who did it from the civilian side and it was a bitch landing a commercial job.

A friend's brother flew F-16's in the Air Force for 20 years. I asked him if would ever be a airline pilot. He said that would be like going from being a race car driver to driving a bus. He had no desire to ever do that.

I know a guy who went to Latech for aviation. Now he's a plant operator.

I know a guy who went to LaTech for aviation, went into the Air Force after graduation, flew in the first Gulf War, & has been a pilot for FedEx for years. He's not doing too badly. I suggested he keep a soccer ball with him on all FedEx flights.

what an idiot, more than likely interviewed, got turned down and stayed in, you can do both, and the bus driver's pay will eventually at least triple the race car driver's

Go to La Tech or LeTourneau in Longview TX. It's expensive but outside of military experience it's the only option you have if you want to fly for a big carrier. Source: best friend is a pilot without military experience

current commitment is wing plus 8, or 10 years before even being eligible to interview, may as well stay in, guard unit is the most cost effective way right now

This is not the place for career advice. If your dream is to fly, you will make it happen and the money will follow. Don't listen to people on here.

Not going the military route will result in working at a regional for peanuts or going overseas to get your hours.

2 of my buddies went the non-military route and got Aviation degrees. Once went to LA Tech and the other NLU. They both flew private shite out of Monroe and they were basically in poverty until they both got on with Continental Express back in the day. One now flies big jets for Southwest and other quit and sells insurance in the Mecca.

then you would be ignoring some pretty valuable input from a few people that have extensive personal knowledge and experience in this field

I was a corporate and charter pilot without a college degree. Went to a flight school out in Florida for all my ratings. First job was flying aerial mapping in a C-206 before I got a gig flying King Airs on charter then moved into Corporate flying.

LaTech also offers a degree in Professional Aviation.

Be prepared to be poor for the first half of your career. And military is the best option probably.

You need a 4yr degree. It really doesn't matter what major.

If you go the private route you will incur some debt and have to start out flight instructing for little pay. Then move on to a corporate gig or regional airline for more low pay. Eventually you hope to end up at a major airline where it all pays off.

If you go the military route you will get your training and a livable wage but also a commitment.

I did the private route and some of my friends did the military. Back when I did it I only spent about 20k for training. I hear its like 100k today but not sure. I made poverty wages for a few years but made it to a major about 6 years before any of my military friends.

Timing is everything in this business. Its really a crapshoot.
