May not have required the PharmD when his uncle graduated
It's a relatively new requirement.

The immunization kick is be community another service pharmacies/pharmacists offer. The world of pharmacy continues to evolve and adapt like every profession. The issue of the wait comes with under staffing and high volume to make the extra dollar for the company (aka big business)... and the Lantus is a 60 day supply just saying....

Had an older pharmacist tell me, jokingly, that it was 3 steps 1) read bad handwriting 2) big bottle to little bottle 3) apply sticker

My wife is a pharmaicst also and the big push is for provider status. Basically, there is a shift occuring. Doctors and nurses don't take pharmacology and do not know the contraindications of medicines. According to my wife there is no catch all database to go, and drugs are constantly changing. On top of that, someone will come in and there isn't a master list of the drugs they are taking. That is where medication therapy management (MTM) comes in, and that is the new push in the industry.
That combined with the increase in immunizations is pushing pharmacists into provider roles and not just pill counters. Unfortunately in our state, pharamcists are also the front line of defense for pill mills and prescription fraud, as the state agency does virtually nothing.
Additionally, my wife's pharmacy is a compounding pharmacy, which someone previously described. They will make certain drugs. Some pharmacies are also infusion therapy and make the exotic drugs that treat HIV, AIDs and other conditions. (if you can get into that market independently you can rake in the cash).

Making sure some doctor doesn't give you a dose of 200 mg instead of 20 mg and kill you

A lot of y'all have mentioned pharmacist pay, which is pretty good, but you have to realize The amount of debt a pharmacy student can accumulate

go to the doc. doc asks "what pharmacy would you like to use?". you tell him/her your choice and doc says "ok. we will call it in". you leave the doc's office and go to the pharmacy to pick it up. doctor's office takes an hour to send your script.

I laugh my arse off at people that imply pharmacists don't work .. I probably trust my pharmacist more than I trust my doctor ..

Yeah they do. Just obviously not at the level of a pharmacist.

Thats a 60 day supply. You see... Walgreens techs are the worst techs in the business. Work for a indy like I do and actually pay for good ones.
