This is only a recent thing and caused by a very specific thing. So, not sure why something realistic cannot be imagined. Such as Do not elect Soros et al funded DAs. Do not elect Democrat Mayors.

I'm not going to piss and moan about it... but I also think drugs should be decriminalized. I'd rather see thiefs and burglars and rapists and murderers behind bars than potheads.

1. Start arresting and fining ADULTS for the actions of their children
2. Mandatory prison time for violent crimes, no revolving door or short term time-outs.
3. Solitary confinement in prison, time to reflect and not hang out with the homies. TV, Radio, Literature should only be of the variety to help a person think. Interaction with other humans should only be with positive influences.
4. Eliminate amateur jury trials and move to professional juror system
5. Make the death penalty great again
6. Tag and track released violent felons in a visible way
7. Napalm

Violent crime is higher now because of increased reporting of rape and domestic violence. The actual rate can be seen on tangible things like murder, which is way down.

What can realistically be done to fix this issue?

The first thing we have to do is reverse the thinking on this ridiculous "cashless bail" system with violent crimes having a minimum mandatory time before bail was allowed (depending on crime) and automatically no bail allowed for someone who has a history of violent crimes being charged for yet another violent crime.

No plea bargaining of gun charges (one of the most plead charges there is).

Bring back chain gangs for the able-bodied doing hard, manual labor (digging ditches with only shovels, no backhoes, for example). They get paid a small wage and that money is put into an account for them to use once they are released.

Also create life-lesson classes in prisons which teach things like how to balance a check book, how to dress and carry yourself in an interview, reading and writing skills, etc. Anyone choosing not to do so or fails their classes goes to the chain gang, there is no other option.

Those who have definite physical issues get other jobs (cleaning the prison and prison grounds, for example).

The issue is that we've focused only on warehousing as a means of penalizing and criminals have adapted to that philosophy. The penalty of "boredom"/"think about what you've done" has proven to be mostly useless. We need an environment where they don't have time to socialize and form cliques as well as tires them out, with that balanced against a means of actually teaching them HOW to be better if/when they get out.

With the current system we have now, that a-hole from Memphis is going to be considered a god by the other inmates once he is back in prison.

Your method of “hard punishment” has been tried and failed miserably. Look up John Dillinger. Conversely, more of a method focused on rehabilitation has shown great things in Euro countries. Facts don’t care about your feelings.

Build more prisons. Violent criminals should be hard labor.

No parole. If you committed a crime bad enough o get 5 years you shouldnt get out in 2.5 because of good behavior. To encourage good behavior in prison add a year to any inmates time who breaks a rule.

For all small (petty) crimes the punishment should be corporal punishment. There is no reason for taxpayers to foot the bill to imprison someone who stole $250 worth of stuff. Paddling or canning with a little time in the stocks (the thing you stuck your head and arms into as punishment in years past) for all first time offenders might change some criminals attitude.

Murder, rape, and pedophilia should be capitol crimes. Conviction results in an automatic appeal to the state supreme court. If both find you guilty the sentence should be carried out within 30 days. With the drug manufactures of the lethal injection being sued to the point that the solutions are not available I recommend using impounded drugs like fentanyl and heroin. Full up a turkey baster and stick it in the condemned.

This has been happening in most major cities and states. They aren't locking people up for a bag of weed anymore. Now if you're riding around with meth, crack, fent, etc.. then yeah they're a problem for public safety.

Where do you draw the line on this? drinking, pot, and vandalism are pretty common for teens. Would you adjust this for if they were caught in process of car jacking or robbery with firearm?

Violent crime is way up in the US, along with recidivism.

No it’s actually not, it’s about half the rate that it was from the 1960s - 1990s

Follow the example of countries that do not have the same problems, i.e. Singapore.

When enough fentanyl is smuggled into our country to kill every man woman and child seven times over and that’s not considered an attack on America then nothing will ever be done. Drug traffickers should be beheaded in the street. Wouldn’t take long for it to stop. Drugs are not a problem in countries like Singapore.

Redundant. Being here is already a crime.

Its a relative few doing most of the crime. The answer is long term incarceration for violent criminals.

The animal that just killed the Memphis jogger, just got out after doing 20 years.

Hard to argue against putting down a rabid dog.

Nothing since it has somehow become taboo to point out our country's fatal problem- ghetto culture.
