Ol Roy is also known as worms in a can.

Science diet is great. It's pricier than the cheap crap, but it's affordable enough to honestly say that anything pricier is a waste of money.

But with science diet your dog eats half as much as the cheap foods.

Dogs eat the heck out of OL Roy and dog chow because their bodies aren't getting their nutritional needs met. What my 90 lb Weimaraner ate each day was cut in half when I switched, I didn't believe my vet when he told me to try it. I just always thought he was trying to get me to buy expensive food from him but the dog is more muscular and eats half as much.

You can also get coupons and wait for sales at tractor supply on the science diet.

Also; if you have a dog that eats it's own shiit, it's because the nutrients are undigestible, switch to a better food and the dogs body is able to process it all. Then the waste is just that, waste.

Why do you say this? I've never encountered a single peer reviewed publication that suggested dogs should be fed grain free. I've looked high and low for them and even discussed it with several nutrition specialists and can't find the paper to back up this claim. If you have the paper(s), please share. No interest in opinion articles or a link to some random guy with his own dog food rating website

To answer OP: the best food is what your dog does best on. There is no magic food for any dog and as far as I know this is true for people too

My vet switched my Weimaraner to grain free due to allergies.
He is on Nature's Domain Grain-Free Salmon Meal & Sweet Potato Formula for Dogs.

Kirkland brand from Costco.

Judging by your username, you are a vet. Is that correct? You should know why grain is in pet food and the disadvantages of said grain.

Fromm's is what I use. Made in the US and the only major pet food company that has never had a recall.

I will use other premium brands as long as meat or meat meal is in the first 2 or 3 ingredients.

Most of the cheap brands are nothing but corn and chemicals---really crappy food.

Homemade is good too, when I have time I make food for my dog.

We've raised many many cattle, hunting, & regular ol dogs to ripe old ages on Purina Dog Chow with no issues or problems. If you have a dog without special needs or allergies or other problems, then I don't think it's imparative to seek dog food with "special ingredients". If problems arise, consult your vet.

I have used Blue Wilderness for years now. I find quality makes a huge difference in coat, energy and turds. My yard doesn't stink like some people I know who feed their dogs cheap shite and my dogs turds are smaller to boot.

You're correct about my job. Now, do you have the sources to back up the claim or no?

My dog stopped licking her paws, scratching her ears, eating her own shite and going as often or as big when I switched to grain free. She also requires less food per day with the increase in fat and protein.

It also smells awesome and could probably sustain me in a pinch.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm definitely going grain-free, but I'm sure I'll just have to see how they do with the change. I've been using Beneful but not happy with it.

Been using taste of wild salmon, dog looks great, and gobbles that shite up. Has lots of energy, and lately has been producing museum quality poop
