The Vatican on Tuesday published guidelines for Catholics who want to be cremated, saying their remains cannot be scattered, divvied up or kept at home but rather stored in a sacred, church-approved place.

To set the faithful straight, the Vatican said ashes and bone fragments cannot be kept at home

the increasing numbers of Catholics who choose cremation for economic, ecological or other reasons.

church authorities should designate a sacred place, such as a cemetery or church area, to hold them.

"The dead body isn't the private property of relatives, but rather a son of God who is part of the people of God," Mueller said. "We have to get over this individualistic thinking."
Cut out a lot of the article and got straight to the meat, full article link below. What do you believe are the church's motivations here?

This is why people get sick of the Catholic Church.
It's all about the money.
It's all about the money.

Money for them to store the remains, probably. And, of course, to let the faithful know that god owns them even in death.

Definitely nothing financial

Religion is about money

Where am I going to get my free cocoa powder now?

They want to charge exorbitant prices for the " sacred, church approved place".

Controlling your body even after you're gone. Religion is spiritual, why does the body matter?

There's your answer. Losing out on money from selling a plot to lay your remains.

My father was an sailer and we scattered his ashes at sea.
My mother never really liked the outdoors as she liked air conditioning too much. I have her on my mantle and every now and then I just scatter her on the rug.
Then I vacuum her up.

Due to belief in the Resurrection of the body. Would probably be smart to have it all in one place, rather than here and there.

I agree with this. By their own belief system, the body is an empty vessel after death.

Um. I have always knew that we Catholics cannot have our ashes scattered. I don't think this is a new rule, just re-stating an old rule.
