Apparently there are quite a few talking amongst themselves to head back to work at Motiva Convent. They starting getting calls yesterday from Motiva to gauge their interest in coming back to work. Looking for protection once the strike is over that they will keep their jobs if they cross.

Shitload of trucks parked outside the hall though.

Heard the same about Norco. I'd definitely make sure I had that protection. Something in writing.

That was the first thing they told Motiva. Waiting on word back now from Motiva. Supposed to try and get it worked out by Friday on what Motiva can legally offer them as far as protection goes.

Valero stock has really gone to shite the last few months. Pure refiner, no real upstream.

That's funny so is Marathon and its stock has jumped up quite a bit lately.

Typically when people use the term "Big Oil" they are talking about the majors like Exxon, Chevron, Conoco, BP. I have worked in the upstream side for quite sometime and have literally never heard someone refer to Valero as "Big Oil".

So Valero is a small player in American oil refining. Alright.

I don't blame the guys. They get no real vote on striking. Had the site held a vote and they voted to strike I would have different feelings.

Backlash from the hardliners once the strike is over. My uncle is a union negotiator. I know for a fact how the game is played. I listen to his stories about the line crossers every time this happens and he's involved. Looking for ways to get the "rats" out as soon as contract is signed.

They probably have bought into the stories of getting drug out and beat down.

This ain't the 70's-80's there's laws protecting workers from union harrasment. As for me I dont blame them I don't now whats going on in there lives. Rather see them make a check than sit out and support usw agenda.

It's not the 70s and 80s union any longer either. There are still some holdovers, but most aren't going to physically frick with them.

Will probably not be popular when/if everyone comes back in the gates, but if they are crossing after less than a week they probably were a certain type anyway.

What type. This is a right to work state they are just workers tring to provide for there families. If they were usw and actually believed in what this strike is for I would say yes they are cowards or scabs if u wish.

You really jumped to conclusions there.

More stating the type that are upwardly motivated and can barely get out of their way while doing it.

I don't think that's gona be the case so much here. Alot of our management came from union. Don't think it would be good move for promotion.

So you think it will look bad in Management's eyes for those who cross if it comes to that? I was thinking quite the opposite.

Loyalty within the ranks means a lot, no matter the level, hourly or salary.

Remember that management has to rely on hourly scum for everything. They can make your job hell and really cause problems with your bonuses and raises. Becoming enemies isn't a good management decision.

Most people who would cross or who suck arse to get ahead think it makes them look good to upper management. Which it may, but it reveals a lot about yourself to lower and middle management. Those are the groups that control your destiny.

It's hard to say what they might think if they came from union background and this strike accualy ment somthing they may look down on it. Upper management probly wouldn't. It's hard to say some people are unreasonable about this stuff.
