If you rent a car and wreck it and die, is it the car companies fault?

This seems to happen annually, and it’s stereotypically who you would expect to be unable to swim.

Not a lawyer, but I do read a lot of those things and they seem to get more ridiculously broad over time. You can't just make someone sign something that says "I hereby waive all my rights and promise never to sue your for anything" and expect that to hold up.

And attorneys seem to realize that in an abstract sense, but they just can't control themselves when they actually write this crap.

Of course not. We have common sense though.
There was a story last week in the news though about a gas station that was getting sued because they sold gas to a guy who was drunk and killed someone in a wreck later

It's about time for the government to step in and start requiring Tiki to hand out some sort of floatation device as a safety measure.

I remember 2 teens drowning in the Amite back in the 90s I think -- they had tied a rope to one another (?)

People from central and Denham Springs know how deadly that stretch of the river is but people from other areas have a false sense of security bc they think it’s a company. It’s just a company renting tubes and offering transportation back to your car after you tube the deadly river.

Must’ve been the Amite then. I grew up off Greenwell Springs. We all knew not to frick around in the rivers around there.

I remember that but I thought it was 4. Maybe only 2 of them drowned.

All 4 teens died. It was so sad. The comite at Greenwell Springs had several drownings as well but it doesn’t have the traffic of the Amite.

Even before Tiki Tubing, this stretch was taking lives for decades. I cringe thinking of my teen years and how lucky we were. I put the fear of God in my kids with stories of drownings in the Amite so they want no part of tubing.

I graduated in 91 and we used to have parties down on the beach area under magnolia bridge. I’ve been in the river but I wasn’t jumping in and swimming bc I knew not to frick with those undertows.

Never went in over there, just looks dangerous. I went in over by the Frenchtown/Planchet Rd area

No, I never did. Of all the reckless shite I did back then, playing in the Comite/Amite wasn’t ever a part of it. We always heard about the ‘whirlpools’ that would suck you down and actually listened to that warning.

Now, where the Amite is wider and allows boat traffic, I’ve skied and swam but not in that woody and windy part of the Amite or anywhere near the Comite.

There used to be some really awesome three wheeling back behind Bellengrath subdivision. There was an epic sand track by the river. We would only go in knee deep water to cool off.
