The other tubing places on the Bogue Chitto never seem to have any drownings and deaths. Is it because the Amite River is much more of a beast than the Bogue Chitto River? Or is it because not many non swimmers go to the Bogue Chitto tubing place? I think it used to be called Wayne’s World

I went to Bogue Chitto once and remember it having much fewer places where the water got deep

It’s been years since I’ve been tubing with them, but do they not have people stationed at the takeout location to prevent people from going too far?
The only tubing I do these days is on The Tuck and in Deep Creek. Both places practically force you out.

I’ve never been but the one I went to in Mississippi was the same, there’s no way you could miss the exit.

I’ve been down the one in Mississippi as well and my dumb arse dog almost caused me to drown after he jumped out of the canoe in the rapids and I had to get in to save his arse

I had a friend die there. Drunk off his arse, and he was responsible for it, but man it seems like a lot of people die there.

Don’t think the govt should shut them down or get involved but I’m not sure i could own it and know every summer X number of people are gonna die and in some way I helped facilitate it. But I guess you could say the same thing about a lot of business and professions. It’s just more of a direct correlation to the death than say a car salesman.

At the Sweetwater Camp, if you went past the end point, the current got pretty fast.
Also I do remember a deep arse hole you could swim in. The water temp changed drastically the further down you went.

I’ve always had to sign some paperwork. I guess it releases the tubing business from all liability.

Has the Amite historically been dangerous? I remember people—including quite a few kids—always drowning in one but can’t remember if it was the Amite or Comite.

I’m 48 and being from Central we all knew how deadly it was. Several kids died in the Amite when I was in high school but I remember people dying in the currents when I was a child.
People from central and Denham Springs know how deadly that stretch of the river is but people from other areas have a false sense of security bc they think it’s a company. It’s just a company renting tubes and offering transportation back to your car after you tube the deadly river.
I don’t think it should be shut down but I do think people should be made to understand that it’s not safe at all.
