good for you. I gotta say, supporting 8 people on that kind of money takes a special kind. Something I'm not interested in.

I know jobs and stuff change, but back in the 90's, early 2000's, getting a job with UP, meant union wages, tons of OT, and a really good paying gig.

Cons were time away, and on call basically every day.

Still true?

Make it happen, you are new to the game and have been promoted quickly. You can do it!

I think flying a 777 would be dope as well but driving a bullet train would be the coolest IMO

Thank you.. Just needed something more promising than selling cars.. Can't raise a family with that (or at least I couldn't)

honestly, it was not that obvious from the way you said it. $4400 a check or $9k a month would have been easier, No?

At least you have Papadeaux's and Papsito's there. I wish someone would open one here in BR.

One of the biggest problems with the BR mentality is that the only good restaurant is a chain.

You couldn't support a wife and kids on $8800 a month?

To the OP, where throughout TX do you run?

Dumbest thing I ever heard. This is about the only chain that is good. 99% of chains suck. I never eat at chains in BR. Typically locally family owned restaurants.

If i'm not mistaken, "a half" is your payment for the entire month even though you are working a half, hence the name. so 8800 would be every 2 months.

Similar to an offshore worker making 3000 a 2 week shift. nice check, but for the 2 weeks you're off you don't collect a check, so that actually 3000 per 4 weeks.

52,800 annually for 6 kids and 2 adults? I would be rethinking things if I was making that single.

Not for the railroad... Our half is from the 1st-15th & the 16th-the end of the month.. Get paid on 10th & 25th...

Not sure where through Houston we run.. Pretty sure we run through college station.. Can't wait for that one!

I have one kid and make that. Wife stays home with him, but I don't see how people have tons of kids and make that or less and get by. Sure, I could probably cut back on some things, but certainly not living some grand life
