This cop's life was NOT in danger. They are supposed to be trained to handle situations like this. If he can't handle someone peeling off during a traffic stop then he has no business being a cop.

quote:Agreed. Why put himself in a compromising position? Worse yet, shooting the guy pretty much caused the "worst case" scenario: an uncontrollable car
A real fricking good reason to not have half his body in someone elses car. Especially for no good reason. Especially with your firearm aimed at a citizens head.

Seems like the wrong guy died here.

Maybe where you're from but I've never heard my DA make statements like those. Probably because he would be facing a lawsuit from family members of the alleged criminal.

Deserved.. strong word. One less bad cop is a lot more valuable than one less petty criminal.

Maybe after he handed him the alcohol and provided no license he just became a little suspicious. Maybe he was wondering there might be a gun because cops never get shot?

Because he was not complying during a traffic stop dumbass.

Isn't that a better reason to, idk, stay out of his fricking car? How about you radio for backup if you feel threatened? I've had a cop approach my vehicle (tags were ONE MONTH out of date) with his gun drawn and it was needlessly tense.

Petty?!?! He had 65 prior offenses....

this has what to do with the officer drawing a firearm and placing it inside the vehicle?

Ding, ding, ding. Now I get the comments.

and let the legal system handle the 66th instead of shooting him dead for putting his car into gear

No, no. You asked why he would be reaching inside the vehicle. I answered.

yeah, i celebrate when corrupt and racist cops get killed just like i do when shitty thugs get killed.
we live in a sad world when we have people supporting executions for traffic violations.

Never said he deserved to die just argued the use of petty I'm the case of a criminal with 65 prior offenses.

What country are you from?

Wonder how many of these petty guys you speak of so loosely have shot cops? You guys don't get it do you a cops job and life can be over in an instance. You don't just hey man this guy looks like good dude you just never know. No condoning the shooting but no licenses, alcohol in vehicle I go on high alert.

If I am not mistaken, I believe all officers are trained to treat every situation when approaching a vehicle as if the person has a weapon. But he didn't, and an officer cannot shoot someone because they think that the person might have a gun. If the officer saw a gun, even if the guy didn't go for it, the situation does change IMO. But at no point did the officer see any weapon nor should have thought the person had one.
