I forgot to turn my car off once when I was in a hurry. No issues here, obviously.

I still don't think it's a good idea to, though. However, the "no cell phones" rule is definitely BS science.

Damn I never thought about this. My son does that shite all the time walking around in his metal cleats while I'm pumping gas.

Props to her. Most people would have hopped in their car and peeled out, making a bad situation a lot worse.

It can really mess up the EVAP system in your car. Same reason your engine light will come on if your gas cap doesn't have a good seal. It doesn't happen all the time, but why chance it along with the possibilities of a fire.

That was OBD-I . OBD-iII is a lot more fault tolerant.

There is no downside. If this were a real problem we'd be having gas station explosions every day in every city in the US.

Turning off engine while refueling by TheOceanIs this based on bs science?

While I am all about science, there are just some things that are based on common sense instead of analysis of data...I would say that not running an internal combustion engine in a hazardous atmosphere would fall into that category...

You didn't boldface the right word. So I fixed it for you. There aren't any gas vapors getting inside the cylinders that weren't meant to be there.

Could you really not think of any upside?

A spark causes a fire, like a faulty battery or starter connection
Not an engine already running, as there is no fire from it

it is not the gasoline vapors that would enter the cylinder that would be a problem, as combustion is ok there....gasoline vapors sink and travel along the ground underneath the vehicle where the exhaust system runs...

The next time I have a date, I will keep the engine on while refueling to see if the date shits a brick.
