So a $35k 1999 Denali would now be $54,500 in today's dollars assuming 3% inflation. That's really not that far off what you can buy a new one for now, and you're getting so much more vehicle.
so you are implying that the newer ones are built better than the older ones?i don't believe you.

FIFY I'm surprised Nissan is even bothering with a redesign. They can't be making money on it, can they? This is from an article regarding the redesign:
quote:
Whether all that will help Nissan become more than an asterisk on the pickup sales charts remains to be seen. Even while the maker delivered a record December, it saw sales of Titan slip 32.3 percent, to a mere 869. For the year, the truck was down 20.2 percent, to 12,527, about as many Ford F-Series pickups that are sold in a week.

There's no question. They're better in every way imaginable. You think the new ones are just going to fall apart at 100k miles or something?
ETA: And that's not even what I implied, but since you brought it up, I'll claim it.

You tell me what you think is better built.
1999:
2015:
There's no comparing the two honestly.

This car is immaculate. And the back seat is no joke, like you said, comfortable looking car all around.
And the depreciation is among, if not THE worst of any car on the market.

Better styling =/= better built. I had a 1999 Silverado, a 2010 Silverado, and a 2012 Tahoe. The interiors of the Silverado's and Tahoes are fairly similar (plus I've had close relatives with Tahoes and Suburbans ever since the early 90's) . I kept the 99 Silverado for 120k miles. Only had a few rattles due to having mud tires on it in college. The Tahoe has had the dash replaced (cracked in the sun), an intake fan by the drivers head replaced (buzzed loudly), there are two separate and serious sqeeks, the auto air control is broken and the vehicle has 50k miles on it. I baby it much more than that '99 truck. They are NOT built well. And don't act like a Denali or LTZ is "built" differently. They may have more features, but that plastic panel or fan is the same plastic panel or fan in a Tahoe.

I'm not even talking about the styling. Better materials. Better performance.

These trucks will hold up at least as long as their 1999 counterparts. Some owners have some serious nostalgia for how well those things "supposedly" hold up. Cracked dashes, completely missing tailgate handles due to one of the most flawed designs ever. Not to mention the 5.3's rep for making coolant magically disappear as the engine aged.

You either had an exception to the norm, or you're misremembering. The new trucks are so much more quiet, even as they age. My FIL had a 2007 LTZ Suburban that gave them 190k trouble free and quiet miles before they traded it in, and they weren't exactly easy on it. Your issues are with your one particular 2012. Lemons happen.

Yes, of course. Everybody's stuff is better.

that is probably the MSRP.. Thats so that can offer you 10k off so it looks good. The 2015 crew 4x4 LT not even the LTZ are MSRP at 62K. Thats a normal truck!! But the final price was like 47 or something after discounts.
I like how people buy a massed produced product that has issues and every other one must be crappy.
Every single car manufacturer, brand, model that any of us can afford has some cheap as crappy parts. Its how they cut cost. You can't build a car from the ground up with the parts you choose.

Fact.
Look at Toyota interiors over the last few years.

In 2012 I was rear ended and kind of forced into buying a new (to me) vehicle. I couldn't decide if I wanted to go all in and get something I really wanted, or buy something around 10k that would hold me over for a few more years until I saved up more cash. I test drove no less than 10 "old body style" Tahoes. I'm talking 2006 and older. I also drove Expeditions. Those chevy vehicles held up well. They definitely held up better than any Expedition I drove (although I'll admit that was a much smaller sample size). I'm not saying they were perfect. I remember electric window motor issues and other things. But over all, they held up very well for some of the vehicles being 10 years old. I ultimately went with a newer model since the price on the older ones was holding up so high.
And this is not my first newer Chevy. I had a Silverado in 2010 that I bought brand new. Paid significantly less than what you pay for a Tahoe, so although it had a few (less than the Tahoe) small things covered under warranty. They didn't bother me as much since it was a $30k vehicle and not a $50k+ vehicle.
I'm not misremembering anything. I was a poor college kid with no warranty. Everything I had to fix hurt pretty bad. Whereas everything on this Tahoe was covered at no expense to me. These issues are not worth the price tag to me. Granted I have no idea what else I would buy in this price point (I'd like to stay away from some luxury brands due to maintenance costs).

Almost 200 extra HP and better fuel efficiency than it's predecessors. More capacity for cargo and towing. More space. Way more tech stuff. Surely that wasn't a serious question.
