The OT is always a great source for ideas relating to travel. With that said, I have a 25th wedding anniversary coming up and was looking for suggestions for different trips that would be out of the ordinary and memorable. I've done beaches all over the Caribbean but i'm entertaining a mountain rafting trip or possibly a charter sailboat for a week (googled sailboat charters out of Miami and noticed there are options to sail to the keys (which we've been to, but not on a boat) and also the Bahamas.

This trip is likely to include 3 kids that are high school and college age (yeah I know...not very romantic, but it's probably the last big family vacation trip we'll take with the kids). Also it will likely have to take place in the summer.

TIA for suggestions

This is something i'd consider. Probably would need an outfitter since I have no clue regarding what to do in the area. I'd love to see this part of the country.

Hawaii.

Cruise the islands on NCL's Pride of America.

I hate cruises, but this was awesome.

Similar, but a bit less ambitious. Fly to Seattle, rent car, drive to Port Angeles, WA and take the ferry to Victoria, British Columbia. Cool town, beautiful scenery outside, great seafood... then ferry to Vancouver. The ride is amazing, in and around hundreds of little islands. Then do Vancouver and mountains... Drive back to Seattle and done.

There's a week (or so) white water rafting trip that begins in Vegas and takes you down the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon. I haven't done it but it sounds like it would be an awesome trip if you're into that kind of thing.

We really enjoy the Junipine resort north of Slide Rock Park.

If you want to do both Sedona and Flagstaff, this location is kinda close to the middle of both of them.

I don't remember any rafting, but they have fly fishing guides, rainbow trout farm, TONS of hiking, ATV rentals, awesome golf, really good spas the place is really amazing.

Some of the prettiest sunrises and sunsets I have ever seen

These are the kinds of things i'm looking for. Off the beaten path so to speak. We always do St. John, Keys, Bahamas, Cancun etc but wanted to do something totally different just to expose the kids (and us) to the other parts of the country we've ignored for many years.

Keep the ideas coming!

We flew into Phoenix and rented a car. We stayed at the resort I linked above which is a little North of Sedona and South of Flagstaff. The drive to the Grand Canyon was a couple hours, but very pretty. I have to admit, I was kinda scared driving those speeds at that elevation.

VRBO has rooms at the Junipine for $225/night.

The bedrooms are VERY big. Plenty big enough to sleep 6 people. Some of them have their own hot tubs on the back patio, which is awesome...but gotta jump on em quick when you see them.

Last time we went in March it was freezing at night and the back of the resort faces a canyon so the sun didn't really rise till around 9 am. Daily breakfast in the hot tub on deck.

It takes you upstream?

I did this trip with my dad a couple years ago and it was pretty fun. It might be too late to get a trip in this summer though. We hiked down at the South Rim and went into Lake Meade. 5 days 4 nights. It's fun but if you're not used to roughing it a bit, it could be an issue.

Here's the thread I made/ suggestions from other posters LINK.
Flew into Phoenix, went to a Diamondbacks game, then drove up to Sedona (gorgeous views). Went on a pink jeep tour, did a lot of hiking at the nearby mountains (bought a hiking guidebook that came in handy), was supposed to do a hot air balloon ride but was too windy, ate at the elote cafe (some of the best food I've ever had), hiked at Oak Creek Canyon. Overall, a great family vacation. I can check with my dad who he went through for all of this

My 25th is next year. Planning to take her to Europe for about 10 days. Exactly "where" is TBD. Probably Florence and Rome.
