This is the correct answer. You cannot Special Order a Toyota, regardless of what any dealer will tell you.

That would frick with the Kaizen. In general Japanese manufacturers do not take build allocations outside of something like an LFA. Your "order" gets fulfilled based on what they have built and in the shipping pipeline or slotted for build. This can be done because Japanese manufacturers have short options lists.

Compare that to Euro car manufacturers where you can get a build allocation and they are literally building that car for you. They also have a much longer option list in general and due to the exponential growth of permutations with each ala cart option filling orders from planned builds would be practically impossible. It is easy to get a Unicorn MB, BMW, Audi, or Porsche built but it is basically impossible with the Japanese options lists. This is one of the reasons Japanese manufacturers can offer more value for money but you aren't going to have a 1 of 1 Toyota where there are lots of 1 of 1 Porsches out there.

Can you share why there's a broken relationship between Gulf States and Team? Especially when it comes to allocation.

So you can't order a truck to spec anymore at Toyota? How long has this been a thing?

Looked at new Toyotas in December. Was told the same thing. Said you could, but it was about 2 years out.

I think I remember my parents working with their dealership to get some option added when it made it to Houston. So I think the car came from Japan to California, then train to Houston. Then they added something minor at my parents request and then it came to dealer. Can you still get some stuff added at Gulf states by request?

I wanted to purchase a Tundra as my next vehicle but can't because of the look. It's terrible.

You aren’t ‘ordering’ a car. They get their same allotment no matter if you show up or not. If you ‘order’ a blue trd pro 4runner and give them a $500 deposit…you get the next blue trd pro.

Gaston Toyotas! Toyota dealers can’t order a car- for as long as I have known all Toyota dealers are on allocation driven by the Toyota Production System. As it was explained to me by a dealer- Toyota believes- and perhaps correctly- that they can forecast what the market will want better than the market itself.

ETA- Obtuse1 Toyotas also!

You're going to cause mass anxiety in here with this kind of talk. People here only buy if the dealer treats them like welfare recipients with entitlements.

If your allotment comes in there’s no markup…I’m sure the dealers love when people back out, they can test the market at that point

How much of an issue is this if consumers can just custom spec a Toyota from another region?

You can't go to their website and get this done? I go to car brand websites from time to time to customize a vehicle for the hell of it and I am pretty sure you can get what you want one way or another. They usually give you information after you customize as to how you can order the vehicle you want.

I just want to know if anyone has been able to order an F150 and lock in the rebates and price when you order.

Yup can do it with the 150’s and the 250’s.
But the rebates are only on the 2023 150’s. I don’t think they apply for the new body style 150’s. But when u order u do get pricing protection.

Covid was the best thing to happen to the shyster car dealers and manufacturers. They know rednecks will pay whatever they ask to keep Baw status.

Right because folks don’t work at dealerships, and have jobs that contribute to the economy. The places have to just operate with no profit.

I bet you don’t hold the same standard to other places you shop at though.

I recall the “ordering” process with Toyota being more of a “a vehicle with the options you want is on its way to some dealership in another state but we can get it redirected here” sort of situation.

I think you get whatever incentives are available when you take delivery.

Go on Toyota enthusiast forums. There are specific options which will delay your build (like a hard top on a Bronco cost more than 9 months over a soft top.)

Buy it on Toyota.com. No BS dealer markups, either.

A dealer can change the spec of a vehicle on allotment or trade one of their vehicles on allotment with another dealer.

Once the dealer has the base vehicle on their allotment, they can change trim, color, and options.

It’s a real PITA and it took me close to two years to get my Tundra double cab with an 8’ bed.

What truck are you trying to order?

I'm waiting on the 2024 Tacoma Trail Hunter/TRD Pro.

Losing game They're gonna mark it up and it's limited in availability.

I hate dealers
