Schools in Mesa and Chandler (cities in PHX metro)) out here started back this week. Those school districts do some sort of year round school thing. They get a summer break...but it's MUCH shorter. But they get longer breaks throughout the year for the holidays and for fall and spring break.

Teacher pay would likely go up if they worked more also.
Thats what really grinds my gears when they complain. Their salary isn't hidden, so I can't help it if some dumbass didn't ask before 4 years of college to teach. And most get into it because of the time off, no matter what they say. STFU or get a different job. I've never heard another profession complain about their pay so much.

Stop taking so many stupid little holidays during the school year then your summer off would last longer.

Well these days parents treat their kids like friends so I guess this isn't surprising. Who are the parents going to talk to all day?

Without AC, those buses can reach 117°.
You do realize you can let the window down to allow a breeze to enter, right?
The only way it can get that hot is if the bus is stationary and none of the windows or doors are open.

Louisiana is blistering hot in August. Too hot for kids to be in school, some Tangipahoa Parish parents say. The parents have posted a petition online asking the Tangipahoa School Board to push the start of school back until the day after Labor Day, media outlets have reported. They were going to present the petition to the School Board Tuesday night (July 21), WAFB television station in Baton Rouge reported.
Great, when I was in grammar school, the year started after labor day. Now since moms work they start it in August.
I think the material can be taught between labor day & memorial day. No reason school should start in August. There should be a full 3 months vacation for kids.

I was reading comments on a news article where parents in several parishes were complaining that kids on buses were NOT allowed to open the windows. Some "safety issue" thing. High temps + no a/c + hour long bus ride is not good. Oh, and the kids are not allowed water either.

Complete bullshite. Look at a school bus next time you pass one on the road. Windows down, multiple kids to a seat, candy and drinks all over.

It is a miracle with the timing, but every 'in service' day falls on a Friday, sometimes around an already scheduled holiday.

It will be hot, you will put the windows down, and it will be 84 degrees with air moving in the morning, and 94 with air moving in the evening.
shite, I can see it now, lil Johnny is gonna have to have a couple powerades and a rehydration session for his ride to school. We have parents of T ballers bring them two quarts of Gatorade to a game, when it last 45 minutes in 80 degree heat.

August days are “entirely too hot for kids to be participating in PE, sports or any other outdoor activities at school,” she said.
This answers the question, "Why is Louisiana always ranked near the top for obesity rates?"

I love making fun of macho douche assholes who think "pussification of America" is still clever or even applicable to whatever shitty point they're trying to make, but Jesus we've become giant pussies.

Good thing the kids of OT posters are all driven to school by their chauffeur. The AC in limos is pretty nice.

Ironically school used to not start until after Labor Day. Not sure when it changed. When my dad was in school they used to get off in April and start back in July to help with harvest
