Louisiana is blistering hot in August. Too hot for kids to be in school, some Tangipahoa Parish parents say.
The parents have posted a petition online asking the Tangipahoa School Board to push the start of school back until the day after Labor Day, media outlets have reported. They were going to present the petition to the School Board Tuesday night (July 21), WAFB television station in Baton Rouge reported.

Never thought I'd see the day that parents tried to keep the kids around the house longer.

We are a nation of pussies.
Maybe the delicate snowflakes would be better able to handle the heat of they had not spent all summer on their asses playing XBOX and gone outside.
And, I suspect that some of these kids could shed a few pounds as well.

Without AC, those buses can reach 117°.

I was complaining yesterday because it was 84 degrees. Screw that southern summer heat

Probably would save on AC bill for the school. Smart move

The parents sure could.
I went to school in New Orleans and many of my classes had no air conditioning, just open windows. These schools have AC. What are these people crying about?

I've always started school in the middle of August. My parents say their school year used to be Labor Day to Memorial Day.
I know that in the afternoon, we cannot get my classroom cool enough especially after my kids get back from PE.

School shouldn't start till after labor day anyway

It's weird this is coming from parents. Usually schools want this to save money on a.c.

yeah, no shite, I seem to remember riding one for about 10 years without ac, it was miserable but we all made it out alive.
We lived in the country so the ride was extra long. God forbid you sit behind a girl who didn't want the window down because it would mess up her hair.

They don't have A/C in Tangipahoa?

That 1 room school shack sure is hot.

So you're saying you turn your ac off at home during August because you don't need it?
Posted on 7/22/15 at 7:35 am to LSUTANGERINE
Sounds like parents want more time to go to the beach and such.

To be honest, kids should probably stay out of louisiana schools in general. Not too impressive.

No, I'm saying I went to school in August, in La in a school where half of my classes had no AC. The windows were opened, that's it.

But dogs start having organ failure at 105 temps, how can we expect kiddies to handle that kind of heat?

Good for you gramps. It's a lot hotter these days.

Dumb arse parents and soft arse kids.
This type of change doesn't happen 2 weeks before school starts!!!
I'm glad it was shot down.
