Seems to me that this was just her way of letting people know that she was on the train and wasn't hurt.

If she didn't witness anyone die, how was she to know that her tweet would be viewed in poor taste?

Being snarky isn't helping anything, but I think a lot of you guys are underestimating how expensive professional level violins can be. String players are obsessed with old instruments, which are much more rare and valuable. Someone who plays in the opera orchestra here in dc is probably playing a violin worth well over 60 grand, and I wouldn't be surprised if it cleared 6 figures. I'd be pissed too.

How do they know she wasn't being sarcastic?

I fail to see the issue here. I am sure that violin is very expensive. I would want it back also.

She wasn't requesting that the EMTs recover the violin for her. I don't see what the problem is. That violin was her livelihood and she asked for it back from Amtrak. It doesn't matter how snarky her tweet was. I swear, people that get offended over this shite flock to the incidents looking for something or someone to get offended at. The "news" that reports the tweet and backlash is just as ridiculous.

actually it does

if she had wrote "@amtrack I was a passenger on the derailed train and I do not know how to recover my violin, who should I contact"

no one would have been offended

Why the hell does it matter? What do these "offended" people have to gain? Do these twitter knights trade their viral tweeting stories at the bar with their buddies? Do they keep score?

Did she even know that anyone had died at that point? She wanted her violin back after her train derailed. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd be a little salty if I had just survived a train derailment going in to a sharp curve at 106 MPH.

No one is saying that her concern is greater than those that lost loved ones on that train. Her tweet should have been lost in the vastness that twitter is and it shouldn't be news.

the snarkiness of the tweet is what offended some people

nothing

maybe..maybe not

I 100% guarantee though that if this incident happened in BR and someone came on here and posted "man I was on the derailed train today and now I can't get my violin back, god this is frustrating"

people would have accosted the OP for his insensitivity

You're right. I didn't mean for that to be directed at only you. I guess that the hypersensitivity of some sections of our society piss me off. I'm going to tell all my buddies at the bar about that tonight. Boom! 3 points for me.
