Sorry - Atlanta is full.

Atlanta has a solid music scene and an excellent airport, so I'm definitely a fan. There's a reason traffic sucks, and that's because people want to live there.

I lived in Kennesaw for a while and had to commute to the GA 400/Abernathy area. Spent a lot of time in Roswell, Alpharetta, and the northern burbs. They are all very busy but nice enough for a family. That area got hit really hard with the foreclosure crisis in 2009-2012.

ETA: That was 15 years ago now. Time is a son of a bitch.

I've since had to spend a lot of time in the Duluth area and don't like that section of town as much.

Yes (30+ year resident here). Like anywhere else, it’s what you make of it.

Yeah it's fine if you like sitting in traffic and dodging bullets. Why do that in Atlanta when you can have the same thing in New Orleans but with a much lower standard of living? - NOLA residents

Lot of variables here that the OP didn’t include (single/married, kids? Etc.).

Overall Atlanta gets a lot of well deserved shite but it’s a better city than people give it credit for.

I'd go to Atlanta unless India is where your family is...

Lived in Inman park for several years .. like that side of town. Old fourth ward, etc.

walkable .. lots of food/drink options.
Atlanta is a great city really in spite of the condo overbuilding.

Depends on your situation. Single? Married? Kids? You don’t want to move to the Atlanta suburbs if you’re single.

This is good advice. I've had to move to a different metro area about 5 times in my life with job transfers or for my wife's career. You are 100% right that it will be what you make of it. And that's why I legitimately get frustrated when people talk smack about Louisiana or Mississippi when their families live near them and they are set up with a decent job and lifestyle.

You'll always appreciate places if you let yourself invest your interest and time into it. If you are only there to boost your resume for a few years, it's likely going to annoy you.

it would be me and my dog going out there. I am single man in early 20's. Why not move to suburbs? I was looking at Druid Hills area near Emory U. Some condos over there seem nice

Decatur is a great place if you don't mind a smaller 2k sq ft ranch style home with small lot in the 700k - 1 mil range. Great, walkable downtown with lots of restaurants, bars, etc. The city school system is fantastic as it is the only Atlanta suburb allowed to form its own city school system (grandfathered in). Taxes are higher as a result though. Not sure where you are politically but Decatur is widely known as pretty far left. Yard signs with the progressive flavor of the month is the norm even outside of election season.

I’d want to murder people if I had to drive around Atlanta often.

Why are all these segregated places with a giant "COL wall" around them hard left these days?
