Or make that sacrifice for better schools and affordable real estate.

For the vast majority of people I know living out in Alpharetta, etc the only affordability they seek is the ability to afford a 5,000 sq ft home on a half acre lot with good schools when for the same price they could have had a 2,500 sq ft house with good schools a 15 min drive or Marta ride from work. They don't end up saving money, they just make different choices about what they want, and a long commute from work and play is the consequence.

To the contrary, if you live in Atlanta, you never have to take a connector flight. It's an incredibly efficient airport with mass transit to get you there. Hard to ask for much more in an airport.

Please give me some examples. I have researched this thoroughly. My research is not consistent with your claims.

You are right about the Alpharetta crowd. But they aren't exactly like the other suburbs. You can't dip your paint brush in Alpharetta and paint all of the suburbs with it.

Unless you are a lesbian don't move to Decatur as a single person with no kids.

Total Nonsense. Sure, if you are new to the airport it could be a challenge just like any other airport but if you know your way around the airport it is by far leaps and bounds better than any other large airport in the world.

Marta is good for a few things. I like using it to go to the airport, and downtown Decatur. It is not great though.

I grew up and lived in Atlanta/Athens for 30+ years.

I barely used MARTA, and for good reason. Outside of a few niche situations, it's near useless for the vast majority of Atlanta's metro population.

Yeah, outside of a couple security line logjams (which can happen at any major airport) I have always had a smooth experience at Hartsfield.

Idk about that. When I lived ITP, I didn't use it on a daily to get to work or dinner or stuff like that since I lived close enough to those things to just drive myself there the majuority fo the time. Any event at mercedes/State Farm, or near centennial, or really anywhere at all downtown was a definite Marta. The once a year or so that I fly was a 100% marta ride and even if that wa sthe only time I ever took marta it would have been well, well worth having jsut for that. $2.50 to not worry about parking or traffic and get dropped off literally inside the airport. You can't beat that.

Decatur City Schools. Most of the northern half of Brookhaven is zoned for solid schools. Dunwoody near a Marta station.

Nor can you paint anything remotely convenient to the city as unaffordable or without good schools.

I'm sure it's decent if you live ITP within walking distance of a station.

As for everyone else, well...there's not much utility outside of things like football games where it's less about quick commuting and more about avoiding traffic/parking hassles.

In the vast majority of situations, the time it takes to drive and park at the station, board and ride the train, and then get to your final destination is going to be nowhere near as fast or convenient as just driving yourself.

I've since had to spend a lot of time in the Duluth area and don't like that section of town as much.

I lived in Suwanee for 6 years. Bought a home in one of the subdivisions adjacent to the Chattahoochee in the North Gwinnett school district. Would do it again.

Never said Marta was great. I said that outside of a couple major systems, its as good as any other mass transit in the country. The US isn't exactly know for great mass transit.

People who love to trash Atlanta either don't like cities of that size in general, or they are comparing Atlanta to some fictional fantasy of what a large American city should look like. You can't compare Atlanta to Munich.

Urban sprawl, non-ideal mass transit, lack of character and charm.......sounds like Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, or just about any other 5-7 million size metro area where someone chooses to live 25 miles from the urban core.

This is what I mean....You can't live 25 miles from town and then complain that the mass transit isn't convenient for you. There are maybe 2 or 3 cities in the country where you can live far out in the burbs and take convenient rail to a downtown job or event. And many of the suburbs who complain about the traffic keep voting down any effort to expand rail to them.
