There aren't many things that cause me to stop and ponder God and existence, but cool space related videos are in that number. Hell even just sitting in a field and looking at the night sky on a clear night does wonders.

some of those other planes seemed really close.

It looks close, but they're at least 1000 feet apart, vertically.

I spent time on a Blackout base in Afghanistan at about 6000 feet You could clearly see the Milky Way and satellites cruising overhead

If you ever get out to the Rockies away from towns, you won't believe your eyes. Spectacular.
Taking a trip to western Montana in August.

So 325 yards, that's still close as shite...

Check out this video using a new ultra low light camera from Canon. First time to see full motion video of the milky way and also of people. All other videos are compiled of long exposure stills. This is shot in 59.97 fps video.
i enjoyed that video as well.

Where I live in semi rural Georgia, I have a good view of the stars and sometimes the Milky Way. But I bought a pair of astronomical binoculars 2 years ago and I can look into an area where my naked eye only sees 4-5 stars and see hundreds with the binoculars. I can see the halo of Orion's Nebula and the Galileon moons of Jupiter very easily. If I sit with them on a tripod focused on one spot, I can see satellites zipping by pretty often. The most mesmerizing area to look is at the Pleides star cluster. Amazing.

Out in the middle of the ocean is even better.
Not really, the air is more humid and you are looking through more of it than if you have some altitude. The night sky from the sea is good but it's not the same as from the Chisos Campground in Big Bend, or above timberline in the Colorado Rockies. Big Bend has the least light pollution of any spot in America and extremely low humidity.
North Korea has very little light pollution so it's an option for those of you who want to do away with ours.

I've seen it from a very remote camping spot on top of a 10,000 foot mountain in Colorado. It's so bright in that setting you don't even need flashlights to walk around.
