45k Miles on a 2006 Corolla. It need (according to them) 2500 dollars worth of work on it. I can drop the money to fix it or should I think of shopping for a new car?

45k on a 2006? Jesus.

My car is a 2014 and I'm over 50k.

45k on an 06 Corolla would be a relatively valuable vehicle.

Fix it. Do the math on a $400 car note. In 6 months, that $2500 of repairs would be nearly paid for but you would be stuck with a car note for at least another 3 years.

You should be asking how does a Corolla with such low miles need so many repairs? Does it need a new engine or something? Im sure you dont need to do all of that at once.

The second question is that if the car really is in bad shape, will the $2500 of repairs be just the beginning of more problems? (again, this is unlikely on a Toyota)

I find it hard to believe there is something on a corolla that is $2500 to fix. Not even replacing the engine. A used engine is probably about $900-1100.

take the car to another mechanic that is trustworthy-

You in BTR? go to Agco

I doubt you need that much work on a car with only 45K on it

Take it to a different mechanic and don't tell them that the other guy quoted you at 2500. I don't see how a corolla needs 2500 in repairs

Depends. Do you want the peace of mind that comes with driving something reliable or are you okay with a 10 year old car with potential serious problems in the fairly near future?

Your story doesn't add up...? 45k miles on a 10 year old vehicle..? Did it sit up for a few years?

Why do people ask questions about something and give very vague details when describing their situation...? Happens all the time in the OT..

Get a second opinion on the repairs for starters. That sounds fishy.

That said, at only 45k miles I'd fix it, even for $2,500. Compare that to the cost of even a decent used car, let alone a new car. It also keeps your property tax and insurance relatively cheap.
