The police unions are indeed an outspoken opponent to the end of prohibition, as indeed they were during alcohol prohibition. What needs to happen is that a portion of tax revenue from legal sales go towards police departments or pensions. It is a compromise that I don't like, but sometimes you have to grease the wheels to get things moving.

If it's legalized we don't need to subsidize a bloated national law enforcement community. End the war on drugs and we can send 50% of these slobs packing with a pink slip and a mug to remember their time as a footsoldier of aimless authoritarianism by. It would do wonders for increasing professionalism among LEO ranks and public relations would improve with the quickness.

Your sarcasm is noted, but the crop used for textiles is a different plant than the one used for recreation.

Both are illegal to cultivate.

Mexico is close to the SEC states, and Feds don't want to lose more of that DEA budget.

It's really that simple. Anyone who can't understand the stats of alcohol fatalities vs cannabis fatalities is misguided at best.

Illegal.

The cultivation of hemp for any purpose outside of dedicated research is illegal in the United States.

If it was legal, over a decade or so, it would seriously start to rival and hurt many industries. Especially lumber, plastic, and fiber.

Hemp fibers are stronger and more durable than cotton or polyester for clothing. Similarly for ropes and canvas.

Same goes for hemp board over lumber in most cases.

And oils produced by the hemp plant can be made into plastic and a whole plethora of things currently dominated by petroleum jelly.

You are correct, the best plant for this type of manufacturing cannot get you high. But it it illegal.

In fact, it's the entire reason marijuana was made illegal. The textile and limber and oil companies got Congress to pass a bill making marijuana illegal by running a smear campaign about a drug epidemic. When the government outlawed marijuana, many of them had no idea at all they were also outlawing hemp.

Why? Wouldn't this be less BS that they would have to worry about?

Besides, I'm certain there are a fair number of police officers/attorneys/judges that like to blaze up every now and then too. They could then do this without risking their careers.

Like wildfire. It's called weed for its versatility and ability to grow pretty much anywhere

Let me know when they legalize Coke

If you're not an idiot about it you could use on the occasional weekend and still piss clean.

Drug tests for coke are IQ tests, not actual drug tests.

I have to be honest, I'll be kind of peeved if weed gets legalized in Louisiana and my guy stops delivering $100 quarters.
