Vyvanse is awesome.
You can tell who doesn't have a script for it. They're in here making fun of people who do, and trying to pretend they don't want any.

Serious question, How is medication the answer to a child being bad at math?
We are not starting off with medication. Getting 504 accommodations first and extra tutoring.

Never took as kid or through college. Got prescribed when I started work full time (in a profession where hours are long and coke problems are often developed) in an attempt to keep up with colleagues through 16 hour work days. Took 30Mg addy 2x a day. Felt like I was becoming addicted about 6 months ago and stopped taking

Took it as a kid, then tried it again my junior year during my internship. Eventually worked up to 70mg Vyvance. Hated having to miss school/work to get refills, and didn't want to become dependent, so I stopped taking it completely.

Sorry you have no inherent ability to focus for extended periods of time,
It always fun seeing how many self appointmented psychiatrist and neuroscience experts there are in these ADD/ADHD threads. You people are just as bad as those nutjobs who claim vaccines cause autism.
As someone who suffers from ADD I can say that these medications are a godsend.
Is it abused? Sure, but so are painkillers. Is it overprescribed? No doubt, but so are antibiotics. Would you argue against the effectiveness of either of those drugs? No because they serve a medical purpose. ADD meds are no different.
I'll freely admit that even amongst those who are properly diagnosed with these disorders there are many who could cope without these powerful drugs. I'm not one of those people however. I've tried the non-stimulate drugs, and I've tried going for extended periods with any medication, both without success.
These drugs act differently on my brain than they do on yours. I don't get a high or a speed feeling. I've never experienced any desirable side effects so I'm actually at a bit of a loss as to why someone would want to take these medications if they didn't need them. That's just how differently they affect someone who needs them.

Are you always this big of an a-hole?
I should be asking you what traumatic event caused you to hate yourself so much?
Ugly wife? Low income? Bastard children? Inverted penis?
I'm not disputing the fact that I can be an a-hole, just not for those reasons you listed.
You might act the same if you constantly have to hear people justify why the "need" it and cannot function in day to day life without it.

Focus is a choice but go ahead and keep believing you are a slave to your brain chemistry. I reject that philosophy.

Got prescribed adderall in college, but never got it filled.

Those who are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD
I am diagnosed by three doctors and a psychiatrist.

What's your medication and strength level?
None. Becsue I'm not a pussy. I learned how to channel my energy and how to work smart and use it to my advantage.
Every time I've tried to take meds they destroyed my ability to think critically and be sharp and quick in a sales pitch/debate/meeting. But I could memorized a book in an hour and regurgitate it to you. Although that help me out 0 in life.
My dad helped me deal with my problems and learn to cope and be a man when I was a kid. Not jam pills down my throat and try to change my brain chemistry.

Look, I'm pretty apathetic when it comes to this topic, but let's not act like your POV isn't jaded a little bit

That actually sounds like it would be a very useful ability to have.

I hear the same from those on methadone.

I don't take meds unless I'm sick.
But unlike you I don't believe I'm better than anyone that does. You're self consciously searching for a reason to put yourself above others and this is the reason you found. Congratulations. You did it.

15mg addy twice a day.
I was productive before it.. now I slam through absurd amounts of work. The euphoria and social aspect of the drug are icing
