The other team answered and said "democracy," in which we all stood up buzzing at the same time because they asked specifically for the adjective, democratic. The judges awarded them the point, advanced them to the next round and we were sent to the loser's bracket pissed off.

i lost my shite at judges giving a team a game-winning answer once

i also used to talk shite to other teams...not to intimidate them. i'd call them nerds and similar insults

i definitely got called into my guidance counselor's office once so he could yell at me for being too mean at nerd bowl shite

I'm going to say it: Roger Craig is probably tGOAT, even better than Brad Rutter.

I'm gonna say Rutter. He's schooled Jennings at least TWICE in "all--star" situations. Craig once, at least.

So let's go this way:

Rutter
Craig
Jennings
Frank Spangenberg (80s--won 100,000 during the 5-day limit era; holds "net winnings" record)
Julia Collins (20 wins is nothing to sneeze at)

I kind of know this guy. Like someone said earlier, he's been one of the top 2 or 3 Quiz Bowl players in the world for the last few years. He led Yale to a national championship a few years ago.

If you're interested in reading more about his Quiz Bowl accomplishments:

What race is this guy? His first name is Matt (white name) and last name is Jackson (black), but he looks sort of Arab.

Of course. Unless you're Roger Craig, who just answers everything and leaves you in the dust. The dude is incredible. He made Rutter and Jennings look like amateurs.

Except for the part where he blew two huge daily doubles that would have sealed victory both days. Easy ones...

Hi mom is an Obama appointed federal judge, and his dad was a Commerce department official under Bush.

So, he essentially is the poster child for diversity.

Well, it's a strategy that mostly backfires and can kind of screw up the flow of the game.

Lots of categories are ambiguous, so it's best to get the lowest dollar answer to get a feel for what the answers are telling you. The people who jump for the big money first to either build a huge lead or to find a daily double usually answer incorrectly because they didn't understand the category. Then, nobody gets the money.

nah, he goes for the double jeopardies in the second to prevent the other players from catching up, not necessarily to get the money. so even if he loses a little because he doesn't quite 'get' the category, he's still making a smart play by blocking someone else.
