The top reason is their reluctance to change model lineups every 3-5 years like Honda,Nissan,Mazda. Not even going to include domestic because they guarantee a model lineup change like clockwork every 4-5 years.

Sure the dependability of the brand is a good selling point as well but Honda is right there with them on this.

It's nice to buy a Toyota and 7 years down the road still have a vehicle that looks like the brand new models.

These guys know what they're doing

I love the Tacomas and the older 4Runners....the newer 4Runners I'm not so sure about the new body style. My mom has an Avalon and it's really nice.

I agree and if they could make a reliable diesel engine, they would take over the truck market.

Well I don't know about the standard Toyota but if it's like Lexus' the biggest issue I take is a lack in interior updates

I went looking at the lexus' with my dad the other day and some of the interiors look pretty much the same as the interiors from the early to mid 2000's with maybe a slightly nicer GPS

That RC f sport though

I love the 98-2001/2 4Runners. I bought a '98 back in 2007 with 138K miles on it. Some guy pulled out in front of me the Sunday after I had paid it off and totaled it back in 2009. Replaced it with a 2000. Same color, etc. That one had 154K miles. I had put about 70K miles on the first one.

I think I have somewhere around 209K miles on this one. I've had minimal work other than preventative maintenance, brakes, rotors, etc. I think I changed a few batteries.

Oh I did bust a taillight out of the first one that required me to buy a replacement online for $39.00 that I changed out with one screwdriver in less than 10 minutes.

Just a totally reliable platform. I got both of them tuned up upon purchase and they've run like tops.

I'm realy disappointed that the one I have now has a knock in the engine and the mechanic told me there's nothing I can do with it. I'll need to trade it in or sell it private party within a year or so and move on. Not sure what direction I'm going from here.

ETA: Spent less than $10K to purchase and own oturight for both of them. I don't need to spend money on a car to feel good. I waste it on other stuff

I seriously doubt this is why anyone buys a Toyota.

if you take care of what you have, most brands of vehicles will last a long time...but no way does chevy or ford compete with toyota in overall quality.

The old body style of the 4runners and Sequoia was so much better than the newer body styles, IMO.

They literally just changed the look of their Camry's and Corolla's this year drastically.

why do you think Toyota owners hold onto their vehicles so long? Reliability is a big factor but the need to jump into the latest model like other manufacturers just isn't there exactly because of this.
This is also the main reason Toyotas hold their value like they do.

As far as Transmissions? No

Honda has great engines but Toyota and Nissan have them beat in the tranny.

2004 4Runner here.

Never had a single thing go wrong with it in 160,000 miles and I drove the shite out of it during college.
